What a stupid match. Cake having trouble closing out a serve-less, forehand-less Leach. WTF. Batty doing well though

Schnyder vs Srebotnik, what a depressing 1/8F match. Schnyder could very well reach the final! (Insert a giant smiley face vomiting ad infinitum).
Andy lost the first set. I'm shocked.

Stupid, stupid Kuz! I am finished rooting for her (I hope). So does this practically guarantee that Serena will end the tournament as #1, then? Yikes. No...it's still wide wide wide open. I predicted a Serena/Dementieva final, and it looks good...but any number of things could muck that up. Hell, Elena could lose to Li. Why is there a Srebotnik/Schnyder match for the QF. And, for that matter, a Bammer/Bartoli. Help.

If Jankovic doesn't reach the final, and we know she won't, then if Serena/Demented/Safina win they get the #1 ranking in a terrible sport.

Safina will probably reach the final and get No 1. And then lose to Batty. Ugh, I was counting on Gulbis for that upset

Was it Corswandt who once said, of the WTA, that it didn't matter what appalling scenarios you envisaged, it would always somehow end up worse?

Hell, Elena could lose to Li. I predicted this at the start of the tournament. Really, though, I think any given match in the bottom half could go either way from here on in. Li has been taken to three sets in all her matches so far...but in the sets she's won, has only lost 6 games total. So streaky.

Q. Have you ever started a game with seven faults? LINDSAY DAVENPORT: I don't think so, but I've never ‑‑ I guess what they call it the yips on your serve, I don't know where it came from. Probably made came from all my years making fun of people that had it. That was my karma coming back.

Was it Corswandt who once said, of the WTA, that it didn't matter what appalling scenarios you envisaged, it would always somehow end up worse? It was me, but it was more "boohoo my babies suck" (and they do - more than ever) than "will you look at the state of the game". But now I'm worried too. This may be structural, and medium-long term. Racquet/string techology and the change in game styles allows players to hit harder than ever, and thus the pace and the intensity of the game has increased exponentially while the top player's athleticism and stamina has completely failed to keep up. This means nobody can play at a consistently high level and go deep in tournaments more than a few weeks in a row, let alone throughout a whole season, without getting injured or spent.

The Roddick/Gulbis birthday boys match was so good. And I'm amazed that Andy won the match with the impressive and overwhelming way Gulbis played the first 2 sets.
