Day 11.

Post by Calico on Sept 4, 2008 19:24:57 GMT -5
I get a tear in my eye when USA mentions the many classic matches they've had. ESPN, please die. I'm sad about this being USA Network's last year televising the U.S. Open. Ted Robinson and John McEnroe are my all time favorite tennis announcer and tennis analyst pairing and I will miss their work as a team. Fortunately I'll still be able to listen to Robinson and McEnroe on NBC during the French Open and Wimbledon.

I'm fairly stunned people were picking Roddick at all, and it's panning out as such. Djokovic had 2 days to recover and he's a much better player.

I'm surprised ESPN doesn't get Johnny Mac to work for them. Unless NBC/CBS doesn't allow it for some reason, but he's on TTC.
I'll miss Macatee, since he'll probably only be a studio guy now. Not an expert, but always professional. And didn't try to be an expert when he obviously wasn't (Pedo Robinson, Fowler). One of the very few tennis PBPs that were tolerable.

2 days aren't enough if you are completely flat though. Which I thought was a possibility.
Still too early to rejoice. He should have won the long rally and soul-crushed Roddick early.

Djokovic seems to be on the verge of routining Roddick. I guess Novak is healthy tonight.

I wonder if the men's semis will be bumped up to tomorrow.
Since Saturday will be a washout.
And we don't have to worry about giving Andrew a favorable schedule.

Not an expert, but always professional. And didn't try to be an expert when he obviously wasn't (Pedo Robinson, Fowler). One of the very few tennis PBPs that were tolerable. I agree with you about Bill Macatee. He is the CBS studio host and the backup play by play man for CBS so he will still get some airtime. Just not as much since he won't be working for the USA Network anymore. As for Roddick, I did not expect him to look so bad against Djokovic. Andy is not even giving the crowd something to cheer for. Novak's game looks so good. I wonder of Federer is watching.

Roddick has the momentum even though he's down 2 sets to 1 to Djokovic. Andy leads 5-3 in the fourth set and he must take this to 5 sets to try to win the match or atleast see if Novak will crumble.

Well, after he won, there really wasn't much applause for him. And then, in the on-court interview, he basically said everyone in the crowd thought he was faking, and he didn't appreciate Andy saying he had 16 injuries, and he was glad he showed everyone who thought that by knocking Andy out. After every sentence, they booed him :red:

Very true, GoDom, but now 1% of the crowd will be rooting for him in said semifinal, as opposed to 40-50%. They would have forgotten about the fact that he beat Roddick in two days, but now they will never forget his giant "fuck you" to the crowd.
