from Wertheim:OUT OF POCKET: Dmitry Tursunov and Nicole Vaidisova of Czech Republic lead the list of players fined through the first four days of the Australian Open. Tursunov, the California-based Russian, was fined $3,000 for racket and verbal abuse during his first-round loss. Vaidisova was fined $2,000 for not showing up for a mandatory post-match press conference following her first-round loss.

18 men & only Deadisova among the women have been fined so far. more details & other fines, c/p'd from various media sources: Russia's Dmitry Tursunov has copped the heftiest dent to his wallet in the first five days, being fined $500 for racket abuse and another $2,500 for verbal abuse. Both fines stemmed from the 29th seed's first round loss to Italian qualifier Flavio Cipolla. Australia's Lleyton Hewitt received the next highest penalty after he received a $1,500 fine for verbal abuse in his first-round defeat by Chile's Fernando Gonzalez. Croat Roko Karanusic's wallet is a $1,000 dollars lighter after letting slip an audible obscenity. The most prolific offender, however, has been American Ryan Sweeting , who lost in the final round of qualifying to Algeria's Lamine Ouahab . He received three separate fines totaling $1,000 for racket and verbal abuse. Other players misbehaving include Cypriot Marcos Baghdatis, Serb Janko Tipsarevic, and Argentina's David Nalbandian. The ITF has fined players a total of $12,250 so far, with the money being channelled back into its Grand Slam development fund.
