Who's this Rybarikova person.
I know she's been winning a few matches in challengers, but she crushed all her competitors this week.

Canada beat Uruguay. But, it was a tainted win, because they didn't have the service of Ana-Lucia Miglirini de Leon. And Chile. And I don't think Koch plays for them anymore, so I don't know who they have.
I wonder how soon the US joins Canada in the Americas group matches played in Dirtball, Colombia.

» [So are we, Steph!]

article dated July 6th:
INDONESIA PULL OUT OF FED CUP TIE :shit:
The International Tennis Federation has confirmed that Indonesia have pulled out of this month's Fed Cup tie with Israel.
The Indonesian government had instructed the Indonesian Tennis Association not to play Israel in Ramat Hasharon in a World Group II play-off on July 15-16 to protest Israel's actions in the Gaza Strip.
"The ITF is saddened by the decision of the Indonesian government to prevent the Indonesian Fed Cup team from competing in Israel next week," ITF president Francesco Ricci Bitti said.
"The team was ready and willing to play and understood, perhaps better than their government, that sport in its purest form is about building bridges.
"The Israeli Tennis Federation, who are now winners of this tie by walkover, were prepared to welcome the Indonesian team to Ramat Hasharon and are no doubt disappointed to advance to 2007 Fed Cup World Group II in this way.
"Any sanctions will be assessed by the ITF's Fed Cup Committee."

Wozniak defeats Diaz-Oliva EDMONTON (CP) - Canada and Argentina each won one match Saturday in their Fed Cup World Group 2 playoff.
Aleksandra Wozniak of Blainville, Que., defeated Mariana Diaz-Oliva 6-2, 6-4 to tie the series after Gisela Dulko beat Stephanie Dubois from Laval, Que., 6-4, 6-3 in the opener.
Wozniak breezed through the first set in 34 minutes before the heat seemed to slow down both players. Tied at 3-3 in the second set, Wozniak needed five advantage points to stay on serve and then broke Diaz-Oliva to win the match.
"Early on, I wasn't really making mistakes and I was putting the ball away early I want" Wozniak said. "I badly want Canada to get into the World Group. It matters a lot."
In the first game, world No. 33 Dulko beat Dubois in one hour, 20 minutes.
"I was not aggressive enough and in the end, that cost me the game," Dubois said. "I played a good match and feel confident for myself and Canada this weekend."
The playoff will be decided Sunday, as Wozniak faces Dulko and Dubois takes on Diaz-Oliva. If the two teams are still tied, Marie-Eve Pelletier of Repentigny, Que., and Sharon Fichman of Toronto will meet Dulko and Clarisa Fernandez in a tiebreaker.

Wow, congrats to Woz2! Lucky for her poor MDO is on the downslide lately. But I'll be darned surprised if either Canadian can win today. But I'm rooting for them hugely in singles, because I sure can't see that doubles team taking out CF/GD.

Argies could clinch the tie there, assuming Dulko beats Wozniak as she should.

I don't believe you have no recollection of her stellar career! Was once world #70! Three career doubles titles! I do not remember her, but I will immediately schedule an appointment with an Alzheimer's specialist to explain this worrisome lapse! "I'm just proud of our girls," said team captain Rene Simpson. "They worked so hard in preparation for this weekend and for them to come out with a win is a testament to their dedication. This is a great day for Canadian women's tennis. It also helps ease the disappointment caused by Mme de Guermantes not remembering me."
