Who, indeed.

She's allegedly going to college. Which, if she wasn't a tennis player, would make her...usual? But she is a tennis player, and therefore it makes her :red: .

Most USians go to college now.

Most?

On the newer crop on tour, I'd guess so.

Asia Muhammed is one player who participated in this playoff who should have gone to college. She also should have played more Jr's, like Embree did. That Williams family has a lot to answer for!
Embree beat Madison Keys, Coco Vandeweghe, Stacey Tan, and Nicole Gibbs -- she must be a tough cookie.

I still think the Williams' way is the best way. But, if your girl isn't a surefire bet to make the top 50, then they must go to college. It's hard for some parents (Whiteheads) to see weakness in their little princess though, of course.
Succeeding in juniors can ingrain many bad habits. I wonder how highly ranked Monfils would be now if he didn't have his natural tendency of standing 100 feet behind the baseline.

Good point. Julia Cohen is the poster child of over-juniorized players.
OTOH, very few players are destined for that top 50 level. How about a middle road where kids play some juniors and then start mixing in a good dose of ITFs, playing as an amateur. That gives them a better idea of lower-pro level play but still leaves the door open for a college scholarship, which is worth $$$ these days.

The Aussie WCs are teenagers Bernard Tomic and Olivia Rogowska.

It's pretty obvious by now that Jess Moore is a no-hoper, but she still outranks Rogowska by miles and has two 2Rs in her last two Slams (albeit both over USian WCs) and I thought they'd at least give her the chance to fluke another win at RG.

Rogowska beat Jessica Moore last week. Give her the shot. And I'm guessing Moore is like a fish out of water on clay with her very flat game.

Yes, I saw that score, and I am positive Rogowska is and will be better, but you'd think they would give Moore the chance to pad her ranking and bank account before the inevitable fall after she stops drawing the McHales of the world.
Of course, maybe qualies will give her a greater shot to gain points anyway. She could draw Stevenson!

Qualies are generally always better for these types. That's why I've never understood these stupid WC programs, so meh.

More $ for the players(/federations?).

Not really. They're trading WCs. I'd think it would be better to keep them all for your home tourney.

Hmmm...never heard of Rufin. Surprised Montcourt and/or Eysseric were not on that list.
Kinnie Laisne is getting flak at The World, and, granted, she hasn't had a good year, but she did win a match as a very lowly-ranked WC in qualies last year -- albeit over something called Hamamura -- so might as well give her one shot in the big dance before she dies. I think more surprising is Fedossova being held out at the expense of Feuerstein.
