CAKE lost in straights. She can begin her preparations for grass 2009 DOMINATION now.

Personally, I think you can choke for just one point and then call it a choke. Especially against world-class players where, more often that not, you only get that one chance and if you waste it, it's over.

Indeed, but it wasn't pathetic, like some of the total collapses we've seen. The service game following the MP was worse. Like Justine said after that Miami match, missing the MPs wasn't the bad thing - it was how she reacted afterwards.

Meanwhile, Acasuso, having missed those 4 set points in set 1, wins set two 7-5. Talk about a positive reaction to a big disappointment! Fed has a lot of work to do if JA can keep playing this well

Federer is a pathetic old man.

What a choke. This really pisses me off now, I wanted to see if Federer is capable of going to 5 sets here.

I'd rather not see him need to go 5 in round 2! Just wish Acasuso had had a better draw so he could have made the quarters or something.

Can Jelena beat Demented?
Match should be comical.

Dang, would have been really super to get both of those jerks out today. Speaking of jerks possibly being ousted...K-BOND, what the hell? So I woke up to some weird results. Too bad about Glatch, but LDL looked very excited in the clip they showed, so that's nice. So you know Cone Head is playing poorly if she can't beat Cirstea. Didn't think she'd be making a 3R anytime soon. Same for Grothosova! But MDM is pretty non-threatening if you have the ability to hit through her with minimal errors. Czink's weirdly good year continues. Cake out. But LA RAZZ keeps the tricolour flying...with a really good win! WozCan in the third round again...and a real possibility to go one further. She might be Top 20 before long. I was wrong about her ability to follow up her California title

Although WozCan's played decent this clay season and in a couple IVA's, take away Stanford and she's not a top 50 player.

Everyone is wildly underestimating VRP, I think. I am not saying she'll win, but...it could get interesting. Boy, was I wrong. I thought VRP's game could trouble Errorena, but I guess she slept in today. So, Serena's favorite singer is Lady Gaga? Oh, Serena. Just dance.

Although WozCan's played decent this clay season and in a couple IVA's, take away Stanford and she's not a top 50 player. I agree, but, unfortunately, the rankings won't reflect that until summer. I did say sometime late last year that whatever her career high was at that point would remain it for the remainder of her career, though, and she has done enough to get solidly up 4 or 5 spots, and maybe more before her defense, especially since the bottom of the Top 20 (Pennetta, Schnyder, Cornet, Medina, Kanepi) are just BLOWING. But I was right when I said the same thing about MaKiri

VRP can beat dumb and hopeless ballbashers. Serena is kinda dumb off-court but not on the court. Also that first match was an excellent warm-up. I never gave VRP much of a chance here because her shots are just too weak.

Boy, was I wrong. I thought VRP's game could trouble Errorena, but I guess she slept in today. You forgot she's over 30. You know it's all downhill after 30! Good thing about this is it was over quickly and I only watched 1 point.

I never gave VRP much of a chance here because her shots are just too weak. I thought she might still be good, because she's still a top doubles player and she's had numerous upsets of top players in the past. This only proves that (1) no matter what anyone says, the game is much faster and stronger than it was ten years ago in the alleged "Golden Age" (note: this does NOT mean cleaner, smarter, or more appealing to watch) and (2) that Doubles No One Cares.

K-BOND 3R at both Slams this year...she beat A-Rad at the AO and will probably get her again. But, hey. She sucked today.

I like Joe Willy, so I don't know why I'm rooting for Monaco -- maybe because the entire crowd is against him, but probably because he's an Argie.
Dokic --ED underway!

Okay, now let's see ED vs JD!

Jo-Willy/Principality was very fun. Lived up to expectations. I wanted Monaco to win, though. Always cheer for the grinder that shouldn't have the shots to even compete.

Yeah, maybe that's why I rooted for him, too. First set quickly to Dokic 62

If Principality had a better serve, he would be a real force. Too bad he couldn't push JWT to a fifth set...I think that would have gone his way. It looked like a good draw and I'm disappointed that he couldn't get to at least the 4R, as he needs the points to get back into the Top 30, and he was playing so well on clay. But I'm okay with it being at the hands of JWT, and even though before the match I thought Princ should have taken him on clay, JWT played very well and earned it. CRochus should be easy-peasy and then we should get a fairly interesting JWT-JMDP 4R, assuming Andreev's sucktactism continues.

So, both 4 seeds are playing live and ESPN2 is showing us Venus and Roger from earlier today.
Die.
Although after this match I'm starting a petition to make sure Dementieva is never seeded high enough to ruin a draw like she's going to today.

Although after this match I'm starting a petition to make sure Dementieva is never seeded high enough to ruin a draw like she's going to today. Pam Shriver (on tape delay): "There's a women's match later that's kind of fun, Dementieva and Dokic." Irony.

Dokic bad injury, off the court, medical time out, left clutching her back, crying ... what a shame! She could have won this.. Maybe a chiropractor can get her back out there?

I didn't see anything, just read on wtaworld. Very good luck for ED. When you get better, don't neglect your stretching, Jelena! You're not 19 any more.

It was extremely unfortunate - she wasn't in full stretch or anything, Demented missed her serve, Jelena made a slightest movement and then somehow tweaked her back. It really came out of blue.
