Monfils talked about his knee extensively in his last press conference, apparently it's basically encased in some new machine which freezes it whenever he's not on court. It seems to have concentrated his mind, his scores have been really impressive so far, and he'll probably beat Roddick next.
Playbook watch: MJMS had 0-30 as Silliams was serving at 2-2, multiple deuces and a couple of BPs, didn't get the break and immediately lost her own serve to love. I didn't realise she was so much fun to watch though - she hit one terrific half-volley winner that I remember. And OMG just now, a FH slice winner! Awesome. Silliams is being lazy, not setting her feet, BH completely off, whining petulantly, the usual. And whoever is yelling out "WOOO!!!! COME ON SERENA!!!" after like ever point really needs to be duct taped, I'm presuming it's Richard's girlfriend.

I can't see Silliams losing this now though, she's belatedly realised that MJMS has no FH and is basically hitting everything there. Chat Federer down a break too! Oh, it's Mathieu. No way he'll close anything out.

Well he closed the first set out. Which is nothing in best of 5. I wouldn't write him totally off just yet though.

I thought of Mathieu when checking out Federer's draw the other day. Then I remembered, "Oh, it's Mathieu" and hopelessly pinned my hopes on Monfils.

Nole can't get it going. And Kohl's forehand isn't breaking down today. Yet.

Where does the Chatschreiber nickname come from, btw? Always meant to ask. That's probably the most surprising of the three potential upsets brewing at the moment.

Nole It'll be good to see the JMDP/JWT winner in the SF.

Sigh. I feel better knowing that this opens up a spot for JMDP or JWT, as lex noted, but still. Boo.

VIRGINIE RAZZANO: Well, I don't know. You should look at their results, these statistics of all matches. I can't tell you anything else. The most important thing for me is to focus on what I do and what I have to do during my tournaments. Then if it's No. 1, No. 2, No. 3, okay, okay. I'm not jealous, you know, compared with the other French.
The only thing I would be jealous about is if a girl steals my man. That's when I would be jealous. Frankly, if anybody goes close to my man, no, I couldn't stand that. That's when I would be jealous. That's all. Don't get close to my man.
Jealous about Amélie or others? No, I have other fish to fry, you know. I have other concerns and problems. Life sometimes is not easy, so let's look at the bright side of things. That's all.

So, what happened? Babygurl tried to drill through MJMS and the ball went out, but clipped MJMS's arm, the umpire didn't see it, she didn't say anything and Babygurl lost the point? That's good. I think it's ridiculous to try to hit the opponent, even though most people seem to think it's a legitimate tactic. Like Arantxa once said, it means you have no RESPECT, and so you don't deserve any respect either. In doubles, it's absolutely a legitimate tactic. And Arantxa played lots of doubles, so I'm surprised she'd say that. Singles, it's rarely the best play to do that.

Where does the Chatschreiber nickname come from, btw? Always meant to ask. That's probably the most surprising of the three potential upsets brewing at the moment. Very inside nickname... Kohlschreiber had a chat on ESPN, and this was when he was barely top 100. And I had roughly half the questions asked in the chat. We love Philipp KOHLSCHREIBER (CHA).

I always wonder about Chatschreiber too. Thanks for asking, Lex.
I was hoping he'd win today, even though it was unexpected. Only the second time I've seen him perform like this - the other one being when he knocked out Roddick at the AO.

WozDen is also a DIRTY CHEAT, according to the World: she called for the trainer at 5-6, 15-30 in the final game Definitely couldn't have imagined Cirstea in the second week of a Slam before this. Hitting the ball at your opponent is a totally fair tactic, but you can imagine why MJMS might not have been in a mood to concede anything straight after getting drilled. If there's an issue here at all, it's the poor umpiring. But then, there wouldn't be as much scope for the Williams fans to indulge their victim complex, and we wouldn't be treated to threads like www.tennisforum.com/archive/index.php/t-380673.htmlTsonga vs Del Pony is huge...winner pretty much gets to have a shot at a Fed-error who's losing sets to Acasuso and Mathieu in the SF. Massive opportunity which could determine a lot about how this year shakes out. I think Del Pony will take it.

Though someone at the World did come up with MariaHo, which is genuinely funny.
Why does the RG site have the interviews for everyone except Silliams and MariaHo up.

Fed owns Del Porto, though. He can use all the "genius" shots (droppers, angles, and especially his short slice thing) which give Pony fits, exposing his one weakness, footwork.
Tsonga would at least have a puncher's chance. Although, I think there's a good chance he'd lose to Boredo in the QF.

The cheating is up on YouTube: www.youtube.com/watch?v=6S78TDLLGjc“I’m, like, drama. And I don’t want to be drama,” a hoarse Williams said, straining to get the words out. “I’m like one of those girls on a reality show that has all the drama, and everyone in the house hates them because no matter what they do, like, drama follows them. I don’t want to be that girl.” -- S.Williams.
