It's after watching matches like these, that I cringe when I think of Hingis going down in history as having never won RG.
I'm really happy for Sveta winning another major - I was rooting for her to win. Safina looked despondent after the loss and I felt for her. Hope she gets her major soon. Right after Jankovic. Oh wait. That won't happen. A major soon for Dinara then.

With how Dinara has played in her three slam finals along with the Olympic final, I don't see her winning one soon.
Oh, Sistah trollz. Dey so crazy.

Wow. I really really thought Dinara was ready now. Disappointing.
We now see that this one was yet another Slam to be picked up by babygurl. She would be kicking herself now if she didn't give a shit about tennis.
And that is the single most important reason why women's tennis sucks - Serena not giving her best and letting 'mediocre' players win big titles.

Serena gave her best. She just unexpectedly played a lousy enough 3rd set against Sweta.
This final was a sour end to a better quality slam by the ladies, though.

She did in the match, but not in preparation and practice.

Serena's going to BS her way to several more slams in the next little while. I wish Justine were here to do the same.
It's funny how some commentators are trying to paint this as some huge turning point in Sweater's career. I like the girl but seriously if Serena hadn't started missing widly in the 3rd set, we'd all be a Wimbledon away from RENASLAM part 2.

Meanwhile, in the US, the media doesn't care. And repeatedly states how poorly played the final was, with the usual "haha a long Russian name" stupidity.

But equally, you could say if Sveta hadn't tightened up in the 2nd set, she could have and should have seen Serena off in 2. That's the part of the equation that Serena, her fans, and the media all seem to ignore (as always). Sveta was aware of it, though. Her view after the match was not I was lucky Serena choked but I could've closed her out in 2 if I didn't choke.

Did a Williams fan hack Michael Stich account? Also what some people ignore is that a player like Serena makes wild errors when she's facing a solid opponent, so all the credit goes to Kuznetsova. Serena wouldn't make wild errors against Brie Whitehead.

Williams fan Ha! Ok maybe I need to get over the shock of Sveta winning and Serena losing a big match in 3 sets. Sveta choking up 5-4 was expected, Serena petering off at the end of the third was not.

The reason Serena petered off was that she couldn't move her feet anymore due to being tired/fat.
Sveta was beaten early in the third. If Serena was anywhere close to optimal fitness, she would have won this easily.
Sveta deserved to win the tournament, but women's tennis as a whole deserves something better.

We all expected Sveta to choke at that point, and she did.

Who says she's hideous? I think she looks attractive here.

Confirms my view of Sweta as Pierce Pt 2, right down to the 5-year gap between Slams. Happy that she's not a one-Slam wonder any more. Also, only one Slam behind Sharapova! And the same number of finals. It'd be awesome and hilarious if Sweta finished her career with a better resumé than Maria.
I would say that Dinara will never win a Slam - seriously, all the stars aligned perfectly for her to take this - but eh, she'll be playing a good proportion of her career with the Williamses retired. Three Slam finals played and no sets won is pathetic though.
