Well that was a bit of a dud but congrats to the GOAT! I wouldn't be so quick to call him that, when he's been unable to dominate one man from his own generation. Didn't stop Steffi.

Soderlings good form is probably because he was wearing the Brawn GP team colours. But thats still not enough against a goat. Just wearing the colours isn't enough. Soderling's rear diffuser wasn't up to snuff.

I don't think that part really matters. Nadal isn't even part of Fed's tennis-generation - 5 years is a lot in tennis. Fed and Nadal's peaks didn't happen at the same time. Unless Nadal comes close to Fed in slams, the fact that Nadal owned the head to head doesn't really indicate anything more than the fact that Fed struggled with a particular player.

Ofcourse, Federer's numbers ensure he'll always be in the discussion for GOAT, but just as with the women, I don't think any one person can lay claim to GOAT. All of them have points against them. Nadal's presence is the only blemish left in Federer's otherwise perfect career record, since he began his domination.

I'd say it's a smaller blemish than Sampras' failure to win RG. So I'd certainly put him ahead of Sampras now. Borg's early retirement and failure to win the USO work against him. Laver didn't have to win on as many surfaces. There are probably other guys that should be mentioned here, but I'm not looking shit up right now.
Yeah, everybody has a case. I just don't think their cases are as good ;D

Yeah Federer now looks head and shoulders better than any other guy in the dicussion. He may not be the best in the world right now but his career is GOAT.

I guess it would be too much for him to f@ck off and retire after he wins Wilmbledon and gets 16 or whatever it is, no such luck, unlike his whole career which has been blessed with it

Congrats to Fed, very well done, nice bilingual speech and everything. Hope Robin can keep up the level of tennis he showed until today.

Robin played well after his tight start. It was a good final, although it was not close.
I'm now a Dork fan. Let's hope this wasn't just a hot week and he can keep this up.
