At least then I won't have to think about his inevitable embarrassing loss.

It would be quite the shame if he couldn't defend ... it would also nearly certainly hand the #1 ranking back to Fed. If Rafa withdraws, Roger could take it back with a win at Wimbledon. If not there, then soon after during the hardcourt season.
Might be good news for Andy Murray, though ...

Well, the live draw is happening right now. Nadal opens against Clement and faces possibly Hewitt in the second round. And Murray is in Rafa's half, so this just gets better and better for him. Murray opens against Kendrick.

I really try not to buy into these pre-Slam injury dramas. Time and again we've heard that a player is on their deathbed, then they turn up and win their first three matches 6-0 6-1 (6-1). St. Kimmeke was the fucking mistress of it. Monfils did it at RG. Helpfully, it's a built-in excuse if the player loses, and sets up FIGHTER WARRIOR~~~ headlines if they win.

Well, he's out, so ... I guess it was real.
Speaking of Monfils, he's out too!
And boy, does this fuck up the draw. The big beneficiaries may be Hewitt, Roddick or Del Potro. Suddenly Andy is looking at a possible FINAL.
Rafa probably has done the right thing. He needs to rest up for the US Open.

At this point in his career, I could tolerate - almost welcome, even - another Roddick Slam.

This tournament might be his last chance. He can always win me, though!

Andrew got a nice draw to the SF. But, he's going to need someone to knock off Muzza and Roger.
