Although I'm sorry to have to miss such an historical match, I'm going to the Pennyslvania Lumber Museum today. Today is the 35th Annual Bark Peeler's Convention! Even Oracene wishes she could be there to watch young men try to climb a greased pole, and enjoy other lumber-oriented country fun. I hope all of you willl come, too! www.lumbermuseum.org/bark.php

Serena would like to play a superhero character. Because she has the body type for that kind of thing, and would even like to do her own stunts in the movies. She also loves to write.
Confession: I am looking forward to this match.

If the girls' final is televised, I'll definitely watch it. I want to see just how bad Lurch is.

I was going to watch this. Then, I decided that I wanted tortillas. Of course, I didn't know that I wanted tortillas yet, because I didn't know that they sold them at the supermarket. But I found them, and now I'm pleased.
Also, Serena winning is a result made in Awfulville.

^^just kidding. I refuse to do things that I'm absolutely terrible at. See: bowling, billiards, bikini contests, and others.

So, is Dementieva really hurting from this missed opportunity of playing an injured Venus in the final, or is Venus upset that Dementieva couldn't convert mp to guarantee her a 6th Wimbledon title?

As flat as all the other WS finals, Serena's more potent serve the deciding factor. So, but for a few points here and there against Kuzzie, Serena could easily hold all four slams and still not be no1? Women's tennis

I thought Mladenovic was surprisingly quiet early on, but shes now developed a Venus-like screech, along with a Venus-like tendency to spray forehands.

Not impressed by either Kiki or Lurch.
Kiki has that huge first serve and can blast winners out of nowhere. But her second serve is AWFUL, she doesn't play the big points well and right now she's basically self-destructing. All kinds of errors from her - missed putaways, random netted rally shots, massive shanks. Her strokes don't look that sound to me, either. She's reminiscent, a bit, of Julia Vakulenko.
Lurch is better at rallying, and is great at constructing points and opening up the court; double-handed on both sides, she's like a C-rate Mpaperfolding. I was neither expecting nor hoping for ball-bashing but her groundstrokes are REALLY soft, and she's not even particularly error-free herself. And her serve. My god. IT IS SO BAD. Highest ball toss I've ever seen and yet she still waits for the ball to drop until she hits it. The first points I saw, I wondered why her senior results were so bad when she could rally so decently. And then I saw her serve and understood.
Yet she has just won, and will play in the Wimbledon MD next year! Congrats Lurch. She seems like a sweet girl and there's stuff in her game to like, so I hope she improves the rest of it.

Lurch! Thanks for all the reports on the match that was interesting! Meanwhile, oh, oh, Venus, how could you. So glad I went to the Bark Peelers' Convention instead of watching Oracene's elder daughter cave. The weather is cool, fresh and breezy, but sunny. We saw an old-tyme sawmill in action running on steam power, we saw lots of manly men (and one manly woman) peeling bark off logs, hauling and sawing and chopping logs, tossing double-headed axes through the air at a target, etc. We watched a fun jug band with a washtub bass; they were really good. I had a root beer float! But we had to leave before the greased-pole contest. The greased pole sits horizontally, it turns out, held about 8 feet up in the air on supports with a big sawdust pile underneath Two guys get on the pole in sitting position and try to knock each other off with pillows. So that is my report from the Second Saturday of Wimbledon.
