My favourite Dechy moments have to do with ears:
Q. Kim told us because she has an ear infection, she couldn't hear the ball bounce. Wouldn't that be an enormous handicap to a tennis player, not being able to hear the ball bounce? NATHALIE DECHY: Yes, and not being able to see the ball also, I guess (laughter).
(Indian Wells, 2002)
"Another youngster to watch -- and hear! -- in SW 19 during the upcoming fortnight is 16 year old Russian Maria Sharapova. During her surprise run to the Birmingham semifinal last week she had fans wishing they had ear plugs, as she accompanied her baseline drives with her savage shrieks that are probably the loudest on tour. So loud, in fact, that she was given a warning by the tournament referee after a complaint from María Vento-Kabchi. And Vento-Kabchi was playing on another court! Sharapova’s opponent that day was Nathalie Dechy, who had earlier complained about the shrieking Russian. But the umpire remained impassive. “A buildup of wax in the ears,” explained the acerbic Frenchwoman."
(June 2003 -- Interesting to reread after the Screecher de Screamo controversies)

So, by 2010, the complaints about de Screamo's screams will cease, and we'll only hear about how pretty and awesome and a winner at life she is. People. Hate them.

Didn't realize she'd won 2 doubles and 1 mixed Slam title; pas mal! But I'm glad she's retiring; she's been MEP-like in her awfulness for a while now. Au revoir, Nat! When are you moving to Québec?

If only she'd somehow managed to get past Lindsay at the AO in 2005 - she'd have been a GS finalist!

Seriously. And it wouldn't have resulted in such an embarrassment of a final.

Well, "somehow" probably boiled down to one pretty easy forehand at 5-5 in the breaker.
