So who's been following the latest swimming controversy with the new all-body power suits or whatever. Phelps was beaten in the 200m freestyle for the first time in 3543513854351354 years a couple of days ago and said he would stop swimming until the new suits were banned. (You didn't have a problem at the Olympics wearing your own special suit then, did you? ) Today, he broke his own world record in the 200m butterfly. Fina have announced they will ban all-body suits by 2010. Thoughts?

Well, nobody's ever accused the boy of being smart.

Not the Olympics, nobody cares.

I heard on the radio that the big problem is that Phelps' swimsuit sponsor does not manufacture the new suits, i.e., the ones he said he wants banned.

Well, nobody's ever accused the boy of being smart. Doesn't need to be. I support Michael Phelps fully in all of his endeavors, including suit banning, pot smoking, and his future career as my mattress.

The media coverage of his pot smoking was rather hilarious. I mean, the worst dirt they can get on a millionaire in his early 20's is that he hits the bong from time to time? Really? How does that even pass as news?

Because he's a ROLE MODEL for the 8% of teens who have never done drugs.

(I get that having pot in his system at the wrong time can cost him his livelihood and that it's still illegal and all that, but still.... bored)

Because he's a ROLE MODEL for the 8% of teens who have never done drugs. Right. Because we need people who are really good at flapping their arms to be role models in order to take the stress and responsibility off of parents. These are things that I forget.

Well, Rebecca, I think the funny part about it is the bong he was using looked more like a crack pipe.
Phelps missed a golden opportunity to tell people who fucking cares? over that entire thing. I guess it would've cost him sponsors.

He apologized and it STILL cost him sponsors. Like, crappy ones like Frosted Flakes, but still.

He apologized and it STILL cost him sponsors. Like, crappy ones like Frosted Flakes, but still. Yeah? Well, he apologized because he wanted to save sponsors. Didn't entirely work, but that was why. I doubt he was sincere. I just woulda said, so? And I don't smoke pot and haven't for years. But I don't think it should be illegal, and I don't think it should be tested for as a banned substance, either.

Little did he know that they wouldn't care. Actually, he probably did know, and the apology did save him some, I'm sure. But Frosted Flakes are grrrrrrrrrreat!ly opposed to drug use.

Nadja Higl from Serbia won gold in swimming. There's no smiley that would adequately describe my astonishment upon finding it out (and rage for not being home to witness it). Nobody knew who this girl was before WC. That's... that's Lige Dekmeijere winning Wimbledon. I feel drugged.

I love watching swimming. It's the best. I wish they were showing more on USian TV.

You gays need to push for more swimming coverage. Since the only reason to watch is muscular young men with no body hair.

Even ignoring his horrific face, Phelps isn't attractive to me. Too huge.
There are some swimmers who aren't that big, and I like those. Still don't watch much of it.

I prefer watching track, which only gets filler time on the sports networks. It's a shame that the only popular racing, really for the entire world, is watching cars drive in a circle. This is why I hate people.

Well, Rebecca, I think the funny part about it is the bong he was using looked more like a crack pipe. I am no drug paraphernalia expert. I haven't so much as seen a bong or pipe in two years. I trust your judgment on this. It would have been nice to hear. Le Sigh.
