Oh well. I guess I should be happy that a young player like Oudin refuses to operate according to the sacred WTA playbook. Well done, serving it out like that. That's not supposed to happen!

Oudin better not follow the WTA playbook next round, but of course, she will.

Could ESPN cheer for Oudin anymore. Geez. She's an impressive player, though. And Demented is playing safe, so she'll probably lose. Ugh. You were right. Elena played okay but Oudin was a lilttle bit better and richly deserved her great win.

ED. That said, Oudin seems to be one of the best USians to come along in quite a while. What is her game style?

It sucks that Safina is still in this tournament, and Demented plays 10x better but loses because she drew a confident USian. And we do not need to see Safina in the final. Oudin's belief and self confidence won her that match against Dementieva. And Safina won't msake the final Leena so don't worry. But another Rusina will. ;D One that now wears a stylish headband during night matches.

Do you think Dementieva has passed her peak and will never win a Slam? Yes and no. Elena has probably passed her peak but if she gets nice grand slam draws next year like Safina did this year than Elena can still win that elusive grand slam singles title.

Short and quick. Runs down a lot of balls. She used to be a dumb basher when I saw her play Team Tennis last year, but it seems like she's really improved on that. Melanie played a very intelligent match vs. Demented, mixing it up. She is limited though, since she's short... her serve will always be weak, and her FH is mechanical and prone to breaking down.

Also, Witten reaching the 3R of a slam after watching him in Team Tennis... that's quite shocking. He's fat, and nothing more than a big forehand. Although, the draw was as forgiving as possible.
