Levine and Petzschner, I served with Melanie Oudin. I knew Melanie Oudin. Melanie Oudin was a friend of mine. Gentlemen, you're no Melanie Oudin.

Well Franny just had a nice hold with some strong play, and a successful challenge of what would have been a break for Vika. Vika looks like she's about to cry.

Having said that, of course Franny could choke here. But Vika's the one who's got to serve under great pressure now, so ...

And Vika starts with the traditional DF, the favorite women's tennis play of 2009 ...

Well, Fran was too mentally tough for Women's Tennis. Really gutsy play, but we expect it from her. Azza spent the whole third set looking like she's about to burst in tears.

So looks like Vika is having an Ivanovic reaction to early success. Hope she can come out of this, and stop the screeching while she's at it.

Hrmph.
Well, the women's side is dead to me already. May as well have it go as terrible as possible.

This blog from the NYTimes looks particularly silly right now:
Azarenka is a comer, a player who posses a two handed backhand that many observers think is the equal to Serena’s. What truly sets her apart is her fearlessness. At a time on the women’s tour when many players get tight at the important points in a match, Azarenka lives for them. Like her fellow Russian expat, Maria Sharapova, she relishes the pressure of Grand Slam tennis. Azarenka could be ready to win the Open. If she loses, someone will beat her; she won’t beat herself, and today she will keep Schiavone pinned behind the baseline.
Ihis blogger saw that last game, he/she is wincing now.

Azarenka's antics remind me a bit of Vaidisova. Just saying ...

I doubt that blogger saw the last game, or indeed many Azza games in the past. Sigh. I'm not a fan, but seeing someone, anyone, step up to the plate would have been welcome.
The only player left I can even remotely envisage beating Serena is...Pennetta. Like, a 0.001% chance vs. the 0% chance of the rest of the field.

I couldn't figure out why there were such long odds on Franny in that match.

It will end without the Williamz, regardless.
Thus, your Azza hate is moot.

Sorry.
Man, these last 2 days. The women's field blew up as badly as possible.
The only acceptable conclusion would be a total nobody winning, or like Sweta. Ugh.
