They thought it would be s short rain delay but that's not the case. ESPN2 is now showing the Williams sisters doubles wn from this afternoon. The USTA knows Nadal has an injury to his abdomin and that playing in the afternoon when it was much warmer with less chance of rain than at night when it's colder and they knew it would rain would be beneficial for Nadal and the U.S. Open. Why gamble with Nadal and their weekend? They could have increased their chances of having Nadal in the final going for a career grand slam but instead they chose the wrong route which decreases Nadal's chances to make the finals and he's not even out of the woods tonight. Especially if he can't get loose in the cooler weather. A Federer/Nadal final would light it up. Even if Rafa is at about 70% health. But a Federer/Del Portro final would not light it up. Who wants to see Federer play another over matched player in a grand slam final? The USO shouldn't schedule to favour certain players, Rafa included. However, the schedule is stupid because of Stupid Satirday, and that's never going to change. This is why AO>USO, these days. Yeah but for the first hundred years of grand slam tennis it was U.S. Open > Australian Open. That said I don't know why the ITF doesn't make the USTA change their poor scheduling ways. They should get the players to speak up and together the players and the ITF can get the changes made that they need. It's crazy to have the men play best of 5 sets seminfinals and finals on back to back days without a day off in between. The Austrailan Open actually has 2 days off between the semi's and final for one of the 2 men's finalists. I know the USTA says that have to do what's best for American television but I would think better men's finals with somewhat rested finalists would make for better finals and that in turn would make for good ratings.

From ESPN.com
Parrott, a 29-year-old from Portland, Ore., was prepared to play with Abigail Spears, but she opted to play with WTT teammate Robert Kendrick because they were offered a wild-card berth by the USTA. Gullickson, who is 22, lives in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
"I was actually supposed to play with Rajeev Ram," she revealed in the first answer of the postmatch news conference.
"Brutal," Parrott said. "I didn't know that. I'm just finding this out now."
When Spears opted out, she suggested Gullickson to Parrott, who texted her two days before the Sept. 3 sign-in. They were one of eight teams to receive a wild card, and they returned the favor to the USTA.

EIGHT wild card teams! It's like a cash handout out there. Leena and Lex should ask for a wc next year; what've you got to lose?

Oodaa really was a little snot last night. Rolling her eyes many times for the dopes cheering for you. Nice. You have your wish, since nobody cares about you now. Melanie Oudin had a bad night at age 17 on the court playing tennis and in her general demeanor during the match including rolling her eyes at fans cheering for her while she was preparing to serve and you make a federal case out of it. Why? She's allowed a bad night and she had it. Then she made up for it with her on court interview after the match with Pam Shriver.

Dang, I was looking forward to your Sock report. And I still like Oudin. And I'm positive the cat still likes her. Too bad about her Dad filing for divorce last month because Mrs. Oudin is apparently having an affair with Mel's coach -- nice lady! So much for that "Wholesome American Family" storyline. You're right I do. I wouldn't give up on her after a bad match at night against Wozniacki the Queen pusher. Melanie didn't know how to play against a smarter player than she is. And Melanie played tight which was to be expected in her first night match at the U.S. Open. Becca, Melanie coach Brian de Villiers is not sexy. In fact Melanie's dad is much prettier so I don't know what Melanie's mother was thinking if the rumours are true.
