South Africa thankfully going out early. If USA doesn't make it out of a really easy group, they deserve the shit they will get.

What shit. NOC.
I like cheering the African teams. They play reckless and score lots. And Brazil. And that cute guy who's good from Portugal.

Tell me that Leelee doesn't like Man Purse?
I feel that rooting for the USA is the most obnoxious of all choices (to other people), so I will do that. Also, I like saying U S A! U S A! as a cheer. It's so wonderfully douchey.

^^ I mean, they're going to lose eventually, but I don't really like soccer anyways.

True, every other country hates seeing the US win because soccer is like 23rd here compared to 1st everywhere else. I should root for them. Especially against the ugly Limeys.
Who's Man Purse? I know zero about futbol.

I assume Becca assumes you mean Cristiano Ronaldo is "that cute guy who's good from Portugal," who I'm assuming is Man Purse.
Everyone just has to root for the USA over England. England is like the Yankees of soccer!! And I guess Brazil is like the Red Sox? And maybe Spain is the Phillies.
No, I'm changing that. England is the Atlanta Braves. Brazil is the Yankees, and Italy is the Red Sox.

England isn't even that. They always brag about how good they are, but they usually don't even make the World Cup and their Premier League or whatever is mostly people from other countries. And David Beckham is just annoying.
Yeah, Ronaldo. There's like a handful of guys with similar names, and I get confused. And, he's cute, so stop it.
Also, World Cup qualifying is broken. It's rigged to get the US in every year. All they have to do is beat dirt poor Central American countries. And Canada, who also NOC.

I want Slovenia to progress from that group. Gremo Slovenci!!! And Algeria.
I'm really looking forward to the traditional pre-Cup hysteria over here and collective suicide watch once we fail to get out of the group and/or get demolished by someone.

Serbia's group is pretty evenly-matched, but I would say you guys are indeed 4th out of 4 there. But a close 4th.

Hey, they only give CONCACAF 3.5 spots. And it's not like we were third, we finished first in the conference, which includes equally mediocre but much more well-respected (for whatever reason) Mexico. I don't know if the USA is truly the 11th-best team in the world, but...you know, we're doing well.

Serbia's group is pretty evenly-matched, but I would say you guys are indeed 4th out of 4 there. But a close 4th. Serbia has quite a good team right now AND a proper coach for once. Realistically, we should advance. However, the problem is that so far have never sent our best possible squad to a major competition. Some deserving players get left behind because they don't have the right managers (i.e. willing to pay to get a spot on the team ). I'll be shocked if it doesn't happen again.

Ghana is usually really strong, though. And...well, I don't trust Australians when they talk about their own athletes, but they're supposed to be good too. But I'll take your word for it.

When is the USA-England game? I'm sad that all my British friends are now gone from here. I will just have to offend British strangers, I suppose.

Everyone just has to root for the USA over England. England is like the Yankees of soccer!! The English are under the illusion that everyone roots against them, I suppose because they fancy seeming themselves as FEARED and therefore HATED. Even though they lost to mediocre Portugal 808354592 consecutive times, among other achievements. They're delusional about the relevance of their team. I used to root for the USA in the World Cups up until the Iraq war. And I have no idea why Mexico is so highly rated either. Have they ever done anything at a World Cup?

As for Portugal and The Divine Cristiano, they qualified, which is bad. Fell into one of those groups in which anything can happen apart from Brazil not qualifying, which may favour them, which is worse. The match vs Brazil will be played when Brazil should be already through, so they'll field their replacements, which is even worse. There's still a (small) chance that Portugal will crash out in the group stage, which isn't bad.

Why are you rooting against Portugal, Man Purse aside? Back in the days of Portugal's failed qualifying campaigns (WC 1990, 1994 and - shockingly - 1998, Euro 1988, 1992), I actually believed that our team was world class like our delusional media insisted, and so I was genuinely sad and disappointed at those botched efforts, since we evidently deserved not only to qualify but to win the whole thing. Eventually I realised that we were far from world class, got sick of being disappointed and began retaliating by rooting for our team to lose. Come to think of it, by 1998 I had probably already turned against Portugal. Nowadays I'm neutral towards the Portuguese national team. I'm occasionally amused when they lose, but that's about it. It does bug me when they actually qualify for something, since it means the media coverage for that competition will be skewed towars idiotic jingoist tripe at the expense of everything else.
