Only 43 days to go! (or so says the web site)

I might be home for the last day of it.

Is Sasha Cohen still a figure skater. I want to watch her finish 2nd again.

Yes, in Canada. We'll see if they can get me a decent flight home that weekend. I'm going to guess they'll have to bypass Vancouver airport, which is where I stopped over the last two flights.
Honestly, I'm not too upset to be missing most of it. Mindless patriotism is boring.... unless it's about hockey. And that's what I hope to be home for.

Sasha Cohen was supposed to be making a comeback. Then, she pulled out of everything. So whatever.

Ugh. And she still looks 12. I'm so jealous of Alexandra.
I don't know anyone who will be in these Olympics now, besides hockey players.

Cohen is still on the list to compete at nationals, so she's not out yet. But yeah... probably not going to happen.
The US hockey team isn't bad. I mean, on paper it should be Canada/Sweden/Russian in some order, but you never know.

I wish hockey were one of those sports where you could send two teams. We had to leave Lecavalier and St Louis off

Are you keeping up with the world junior champs Chloe? It's in the news here everyday.
Also, VANOC is turning out to be no better than the Beijing authorities in bullying people to take stuff off their lawns and closing down businesses in order to make the city more presentable. Yay.

If this was 1994 or 1998, I'd want to watch absolutely everything, including stuff like luge or bobsleigh. And figure skating, which I now find mind-numbingly boring.
I'm actually excited about alpine skiing and biathlon. As for the rest, meh.

Since the US sucks at hockey now, and women's figure skating has become JPN/JPN/KOR/JPN, I expect Sochi '14 to be on two-week tape delay on Versus or the Tennis Channel.

As long as they continue the awesome online coverage, I do not care. And I'll have FIOS by then. Yayayaya.

I follow the World Junior Champs, but won't watch until the final, if that. My schedule makes this difficult. Honestly, I can't be bothered to tune in for early round matches that Canada is a part of. I realize that the match against the USA was apparently quite good, but otherwise they tend to be total routes. Meh.

Take what kind of stuff off their lawns? Like, garden gnomes and other tchotchkes? Sprinklers? Dogs and children? Trees?

Take what kind of stuff off their lawns? Like, garden gnomes and other tchotchkes? Sprinklers? Dogs and children? Trees? Any signs/things with the logo of the Olympics used without authorization (because only paying sponsors should have that privilege). Same with anything that criticizes the Olympics, or Vancouver or the province of British Columbia or Canada (because visitors won't like seeing disagreeable things). They threatened to fine an art gallery in downtown Vancouver because the mural on its outside wall was deemed to be "graffiti." The mural was taken down. I'll still follow the Olympics though but this stuff is a bit weird.

Holy crap, it does sound like Beijing. Don't know if that stuff about forbidding "anything that criticizes the Olympics, or Vancouver or the province of British Columbia or Canada" would hold up in a court of law, but then I don't know anything about the Canadian constitution regarding freedom of speech.
And if "visitors won't like seeing disagreeable things", will they be asking ugly, obese, and/or old people to stay out of sight? Maybe they'll ship them all to Florida for the duration!

I'd be interested to hear Fatty's (Sjengster) take on this. He was unhappy that Vancouver for the Olympics in the first place, and I imagine unsurprised about all of this nonsense. Hopefully he finds his way here.

You mean Sjengster2, right? I'm not sure Sjengster1 would be able to adequately contribute, as he's currently chained up in Hackie's basement.

The winter olympics aren't as sexy as the summer olympics, for obvious reasons, but they're still pretty solid.
Who should I be looking up on Google this year?

Yes. He used to post here, before Leena split the board in half. Don't worry, the correct half stayed.

Yeah, but he's not really at the other board, either. And either way, on the whole, we won.

Yes. He used to post here, before Leena split the board in half. Don't worry, the correct half stayed. You're welcome. The other board is dead anyway other than Hackie posting tourney info to herself. Like, dead compared to here. This is when I went there like a year ago.

The opening ceremonies begin at 11am my time, and I will be up for them. Woot! I'll find some stream online somewhere, since I don't have a TV.
I had forgotten until a few minutes ago that I totally get choked up over stupid Olympic shit. So excited, YAY!
