Most big North American ski resorts are in relatively warm areas to begin with. I'd guess that's because they're closer to big population centres that way. You can't build a resort in the Arctic and expect to do much business. Whistler's known for dodgy weather though. Bode Miller holds on for bronze. Eric Geigh fifth, media darling Osborne-Paradis not even in the top 10

SPOILERS. Damn you, NBC.

Sorry Hurley, didn't realize NBC was ruining the Olympics like every other sporting event it broadcasts. I was just too eager to get an Eric Guay joke in.

Yeah, I should not be on the Internet.

You need to avoid TV (other than NBC) and Internets to not see spoilers, so why bother. I really hate NBC. Just show the shit live. Then replay it when you want to.
And I still hate the 40 degree (+4 or whatever for you Euros) weather is optimal shit. No, it's not. The worst weather there is, is cold rain. It feels awful, and is like guaranteed to make you sick. You can avoid sub-freezing weather, unless it's brutal cold with high winds, which is rare. Dress warmly. And snow is lovely. Nice fluffy snow is beautiful and fun. So, poo on you winter haters.
Why not have the winter Olympics in Hawaii then. Then you get really nice weather, and they get snow on their highest mountains.

When the temperature hits -5C here, which it rarely does, I complain that it's fucking cold. I no longer have any concept of -20, and I'd like to keep it that way.
Bode Miller still skis? Shouldn't he be 85 years old and drunk in a bush by now?

Another speed skating event is delayed because those machines aren't working properly. That's quite embarrassing.

janiehub was watching something else this evening, and periodically we checked in to see what was happening on NBC. EVERY SINGLE TIME we checked, they were showing some crappy "feature" instead of an actual SPORT. Once it was Mary Carillo visiting that polar bear town, Churchill is it? which is what, about 1,000 miles away from the Olympic site?? What is the connection, NBC? Is it because that town is also in Canada? Are you taking us to Quebec City next, then? How about a nice feature on New Brunswick?

We're TiVoing and starting it 60 to 90 minutes after. Even with that, due to skipping the puff pieces and commercials, we're caught up.

NBC hasn't been that bad with the puff pieces yet. But, there hasn't been a hyped USian besides Ohno, or any interesting figure skating stuff yet.
Also note that there really isn't much going on with the Winter Games. There's only a few events per day. Many of which are short races.

Yeah, Winter Games doesn't have as many events to fill 16 days. I remember why I always say they're substantially more boring: because they are.

It gets more exciting for me tomorrow... men's hockey and curling start. So, at least there will be something to watch at all hours. The lack of alpine events really made the first few days blow.

It's too bad this blizzard has pushed twice my amount of work into the next three days. Otherwise, I'd have been able to park in front of a couple of full curling matches. If I hit 40 hours before COB on Friday, I'm totally going to the gay sports bar to watch.

Pang and Tong were so much better than the shitty Germans and Russians that you just know they're going to finish fourth behind them both.

Nice to see that the best team won.
I doubt curling is very popular anywhere, but I enjoy the strategy and all.

It's pretty popular around here. My highschool had boys and girls curling teams and our last corporate outing was to a curling arena.

Curling gets disproportionate UK press because we have a team which, I gather, is fairly good at it. It seems to have been exactly the same team of Scottish housewives for the last 15 years. I watched my first live Olympics today! Shocking. Snowboarding cross is pretty exciting, right? Felt weird watching the luge and hoping no one would die

Cancelled for the day. So far, at least.
I believe this is all Lindsey Vonn's doing. She must have made a deal with the devil to keep postponing races until her injury is healed.

How is this human on my TV the French champion? What happened to Joubert?

Joubert injured himself and didn't win this year. I'm not even sure he competed. Don't worry, he'll be out. He's in the last group.

Why is Plushenko this early. I thought he was good.
Johnny Weird is awesome. I hope he wins, unless someone catches my fancy.
