Good, I hated that US skip. He looked like your average fat sports fan with the stupid hat. He also sucked hard. Their 3rd was pretty cute. I'd do that.

Winter sports are ignored so thoroughly in my b00tiful kawntree that we actually find it hard to understand how anyone follows them at all. The same happens here, most people don't know there are winter olympics. This is on at ES1 24-7, yet we genuinely had no idea that this was followed so enthusiastically throughout the world. Or at least some parts of it. Over here, nada. It's not just that I feel left out - I feel like I'm a Tuareg or something.

Come to think of it, it's pretty much the only winter sport where we actually get to see what athletes look like, so it's perhaps not too surprising.

I should have just started a Joubert thread and left it at that.
I hate curling, so I am prejudiced against curlers and refuse to look at them. Roar.

Curling > Figure Skating. Sorry, Corian Chole.
I wouldn't say the Winter Olympics are followed enthusiastically in North America. Other than figure skating and hockey, we don't give a shit about any of these events.
It's a strange event that draws in women and casual fans, and the timing is perfect since late Winter is void of any interesting television or sports.

I was one for a couple of years or so, and I'd follow anything back then - women's tennis, cycling, rugby, women's volleyball, football, track and field, and maybe some others as well. Football season it at its height right now, with two matches a week since, due to the World Cup, all competitions have to wrap up a few weeks earlier than the usual.

BTW, to give you an idea about how winter sports are ignored here, I remember a year or so ago, during every single Eurosport broadcast for a number of weeks, the Portuguese commentators would repeatedly remind their viewers that ES was looking for Portuguese language commentators for their winter sports broadcasts. The portuguese ES website was also filled with notices.
They sounded really desperate - the way they were talking, it seemed as if anyone who would walk into their studios and offer him/herself to do those commentaries would be signed immediately, regardless of background or qualifications.

That's literally what happened on Eurosport Serbia. Fortunately, a couple of those guys turned out to be pretty enthusiastic about their jobs and made an effort to learn something about the sports they cover. Still, the majority of them don't give a shit and speak nonsense all the time.

I got hooked on winter sports during the Lillehammer Olympics and haven't looked back since. Eurosport's winter schedule is great for me.

If I knew this would turn into the curling thread, I would have never started it. Sigh. Can you help me with Curling? I just don't get it. In the Super G women's ski race today Austria's Andrea Fischbacher won gold, Solvenia's Tina Maze won silver and America's skiing wonder woman Lindsey Vonn won bronze. Of course those of us in America get to watch this competition on tape delay tonight.

I'm watching curling now and it's basically this thread, only live on air. The commentators are talking exclusively about the curlers' looks. They are even holding a Miss Curling contest and the viewers are sending in their votes. Sidorova of Russia is leading so far.
WTF.

It's not the Omnisports fans, which basically means ESPN guppies, since ESPN tries to ignores the Olympics at all costs.
Curling isn't that difficult. Count the stones that are closest to the center.

I follow everything BIG, and the Olympics are like the mother lode. Even if you think skating is quai-er </Boston>, you gotta see if that Ballbuster loves men!!1 :hearts: Lysacek brings one home for USA USA USA!!!!!!!!1 Same for the Tour de Lance.

One guy on the Canadian curling team, the dark and handsome one, fuck yes. There's less sexxx on the men's side because they're older. But, a lot of fit dudes still. God, I love curling. It was also funny watching CAN and GBR who are 1000x better than the choking USians.

Least busted American hockey player? I vote Parise, but there may be somebody who can actually grow a beard that I'm overlooking.
Team Canada is a bit harder. We're an ugly bunch.

Come on, Crosby is studly.
Hockey players in general are....just rough. Best not to think about it. That's what speed skaters are for.

The best looking athlete I've seen at these Olympics. Not wearing a ski suit, helmet or cap helped, I guess.
