Pitsburgh had the biggest increase apparently, which isn't mentioned in that article for some reason. I'll try to find it later, but it was >30%. Take that Ovechkin loving Crosby hatas on zee hockey boards. Your boy doesn't sell as many tickets as the Pens boy! Muhahah.

Well duh, nobody wants to pay a Russian who's name they can't pronounce. Plus, Washington has never gave a crap about hockey.

But haven't you heard? Ovechkin is MR CHARISMA! This is what they tell me on hfboards.com, at least.
Don't get me wrong, it's entirely possible.
But if Ovechkin was going to get propped up from the NHL, it was going ot happen last season before Crosby. Unfortunately for him and Wash., the NHL was locked out last season. That said, I doubt Ovechkin cares. He's clearly doing just fine.
Speaking of Russians whose name nobody can pronounce, the Penguins have a prospect who is currently playing in Russia but should be in a Pens uniform next season. It's said that Malkin might be even better than Ovechkin. And if that's true? Wow.

And the Pens would likely still manage to find a way to suck.

Soon the Pens will take over the world, with Fluery in net, and Crosby and Malkin scoring 2342343 points a year. You will see. Mario will still be playing then, at age 45.
Seriously, I was under the impression that he only hung on the last couple of years to sell tickets. With Crosby, he probably won't have to do that much longer.

The Pens did get mentioned on another short article. This is an earlier article dated Nov 1, at that point, Pens only had one win:
The NHL set an all-time attendance record for the month of October, attracting an average of 16,820 fans and filling rinks to 91.2 percent capacity.
And despite winning only one game in October, the Penguins' attendance jumped 31 percent compared to the opening month of the 2003-04 season.
The Penguins averaged 15,902 in 16,940-seat Mellon Arena for their six home games, two of which drew standing room-only crowds.
Two others were within a few hundred tickets of selling out.
Pittsburgh won the NHL draft lottery and chose top prospect Sidney Crosby. The Penguins also signed veteran scorers Sergei Gonchar, Ziggy Palffy and John LeClair during the summer.

Ziggy is in Pittsburg? I didn't even notice that.
Anyway. For the TV deal, true that it's not ESPN anymore. But NHL did sell to OLN the same price they offer to ESPN. So at least for this contract (even if OLN has a small viewership), they drawn the same amount of revenue they would have drawn from the original deal to ESPN. My guess is that ESPN didn't think NHL will do good after the lockout so they didn't want to pick up the contract. But seeing the league is getting stronger, they may want in again the next time around. And from what I heard, the league is starting to sell tv rights to Europe, which make a lot of sense since there's such a part portion of players from Europe.

BTW, here's what Bettman said:
In his National Press Club appearance, Bettman proudly proclaimed the NHL has "reinvented itself."
The game, Bettman said, "has been refreshed and reinvigorated by a new economic system, better competitive balance and some new rules ... that allow the skills of our players to dominate."
Bettman cited several statistics: Scoring is up 30 percent, fighting is down about 40 percent, attendance in October was the highest ever for that month and TV ratings are up on U.S. regional cable channels, plus Canada's CBC and TSN networks.

Ziggy is in Pittsburg? I didn't even notice that. . Yeah, they signed a few players... after the draft, I think. Mainly because the cap allowed them to, but the increase in ticket sales after the draft lottery probably didn't hurt (forgive me if I'm repeating myself here, but they reportedly sold more season tickets after they won the draft lottery than they did the entire last season they played). They acquired Mark Recchi from Philadelphia as well. And Thibault from Chicago to be their starting goalie. That's why them still losing was so hilarious

Thibault sucks though.
They would have better off just playing Fleury and the Caron guy.

Thibault sucks though. They would have better off just playing Fleury and the Caron guy. Well, they were just playing Caron for a while. I think they wanted to give Fluery another year in the AHL as opposed to ruining him with their atrocious D. Fluery will probably get called up again at some point, but for now he's doing really well in the AHL. I'd rather see him play some more games there for now then get absolutely raped behind the crappy Pens D. If I'm not mistaken, the long term idea is that Caron and Fluery will be the goalies.

Today, the Pens' game is on OLN. Hope they had a good game. I still wonder, is OLN really so hard to get? I mean, OLN is a regular channel on the basic package here in the 2 cable companies that I have used so far. And the channel is getting quite popular since they start carrying Tour De France several years ago. Well, anyway. It would be too bad if ppl can't get them. In fact, most of the games are usually carried by those local market's FSN.

Wow! Canucks is still unbeaten at home!!! Flames is still at the bottom of NW division. At least the team climbed back up to over 500 in last 10: 5-4-1 but unless the team improves on the road, I'm worried the team will miss playoff

I get the OLN, but they aren't carrying the game here. So OLN doesn't have the right to broadcast in Canada? Probably as TSN is still showing hockey.

Dish Network had a hissy fit with Comcast (they own OLN), since apparently they want too much money. So, Dish just removed the channel entirely.

Well, I guess I don't have to consider Dish anytime soon then. They don't offer the NHL package, they don't offer OLN, so absolutely no hockey on the Dish. Yay, Pens just score another one right after killing a penalty. The big names did well today, Sidney, Mario and Ziggy each scored one.

Wow! Canucks is still unbeaten at home!!! So is Caroline. And on the flip side, we suck on the road, currently on a 3 games road game losing streak, so Flames is looking good tonite. Oh, don't worry Lee. It'd not too long ago that they suck for the first half and came all the way back to get into playoff and then all the way to the final. I'm pretty sure you haven't forget that.

First time this season Flames scored more than 3 goals. Sorry it's vs Canucks, Vera.
A week into November, Flames won as many games as in October.
And Flames will be in Phoenix (or more accurate, Glendale) Thursday. Flames played Yotes 2 times already and loss both. Time for revenge.

First time this season Flames scored more than 3 goals. Sorry it's vs Canucks, Vera. Ya, I'm sorry too my Canucks suck at the moment. Despite the standing so far, we hadn't play well. We were lucky to win some of those games. But there's so many holes in our game and even I can make a list of what's wrong. The big line like each other too much they kept passing instead of shooting. Bert is pathetic in a very sad way. I felt for the guy and he has a long way to go to gain some confident back and play the way he's supposed to play. He's just horrible, playing so tentatively. The D is too offensive sometimes, they join the rush and push up the line too much and losing their positions. And I'm still very not trusting any of our goalies. Well, good that the season is still young. Before Sat's game (and that was 2 loss ago), Kelly Hrudey said that Canucks really need to get it going because we haven't play to the level that we are supposed to play, and he suggested a losing streak may wake the boys up. Guess what, now we really get one ourselves, Hrudey is right about the first half that we didn't play good enough, hopefully, he's also right about the second half that a losing streak will snap us out of this , errr, I can't call it a slump because they aren't really in a slump, just playing very sluggishly and yet to get into the groove. Okay, that's it for me whinning about my team. I just need to get it out of my system, cos watching them has been pissing me off even when they were winning (because it's a pattern in this season that they fell asleep in the 3rd period and keep taking stupid penalty to give away leads.

BTW, Lee, the Flames look good to me. They are flying. We couldn't catch up with them on Sat. I think we were unlucky that we didn't get to play them in Oct and get some wins out of them while they weren't up to speed yet. Now, I'm pretty certain that they are back on track and if not, these 2 wins is likely to jump start them. Not that the Canucks are hard to beat or anything, just that anytime you beat a big rival, that's always a great boost in spirit.

Talk about rivalry. The new NHL makes teams play 8 times against other teams in same division. That's a awful lot if you ask me. Right, it's exciting when big rivals play each other. But 8 times, it's too much.

Let's go Avs!! The Sens are looking like the most impressive bunch up to this point, isn't it? Anyway, I've received a confirmation that I'm in a public league of fantasy hockey (yahoo). I subscribed and forgot about it, and then all of a sudden I had a team and was in a league. I'm glad I made that preferences list. My team seems good. Goalies: Hasek, Legace, Grahame Defence: Redden, Liles, Timonen, Rafalski Left Wings: Samsonov, Zetterberg, Modin Right Wings: Alfredsson, Selanne, Hartnell Centers: Spezza, Staal, Savard

And anyway, I don't know if you guys will be interested in repeating our lots of fun game from two years ago, but if that's the case I created a small league (8 max teams, but willing to start with 4 or 5 already) for us if you are interested. Not much time needed (just a pre-draft to select your preferred players - 30 minutes at the most; and then a couple minutes a day or every 2-3 days to select active players for each round) League data: League ID: 111667 League Name: Cults League Password: avalanche (hhehehehe) Starts on Wed Nov.16 (sign up up to Tuesday if willing to play) Autopick draft (pre-draft recommended) Rotisserie League (counting stats: Goals, Assists, Points, Plus-Minus, PIM, Powerplay Points, Shorthanded Points, Game-winning Goals, Shots on Goal, Wins (G), Goals Against Average, Save %, Shutouts) Players on each team: 2 centers, 2 right wings, 2 left wings, 4 defensemen, 2 goalies, 4 bench players, 2 IR players)
