Andy beats Rafa and Roger in straight sets to win Toronto, yet called his QF win over Fat Dave his best match of the year. Anyhow, moving on there's a story on him in US Vogue. www.vogue.com/voguedaily/2010/08/from-the-magazine-murray-mania/How did I come across this? Andy's facebook page posted this on my newsfeed. What is the point of all this? Stick to tennis, please. Cheers, Your only fan at the Cult.

Why do I always end up cheering for men's players everyone hates here? Hewitt, Murray...

Because you somehow continually pick people who are ugly AND awful.

Because you somehow continually pick people who are ugly AND awful. They're undersized, scrappy and they're fighters. The fact that they're both repulsive isn't relevant. Why is he playing ping pong with a coat and white jeans? WTF? I think they're trying to come across as omg!!1fashion/Vogue, which is essentially an excuse to look absurd.

Why do I always end up cheering for men's players everyone hates here? Hewitt, Murray... I feel like we've had this discussion 1000 times: I LIKE Murray. I like watching his matches. I just couldn't possibly want to have less sex with him. In real life, I like lots of people I don't want to have sex with. Almost everybody else dislikes him though, yes. If it makes you feel better, I'm probably the only one that still bothers to root for Rafa to win RG.

Murray is not undersized.

I like watching his matches too. he has a unique style of play, and his presence usually ensures I have a barracking interest in the match.

Yeah, I love his game. I wouldn't call myself a fan, but I don't think I really do the "fan" thing any more. I guess a big part of my active support is informed by the weird attitude to him in the UK, where you see a lot of Little England resistance to him for being too surly/not like nice Tim Henman/too Scottish/that offhand "anyone but England" comment from years ago. Those people are the worst, therefore I pretty much have to be pro-Murray. And I love the way he doesn't give a shit about them.
Of course, the other side of it is the stupid UK press over-hyping him, which means that I can never support him at Wimbledon, because I just think of all the idiocy and shudder. He can win the USO. Maybe then it'll actually be televised in this country.

But then, I pretty much like everyone who's ascended to the ATP elite since Roger and Rafa. Murray, Djokovic, Tsonga, Del Potro, Verdasco, Cilic, got love for 'em all. I've even mellowed on Roddick as a person, even if I never want him to win matches. Hewitt and Stepanek still repulse me in every way, though.

I guess only David Beckham with a racquet would satisfy. Not that I'm a Murray defender; I still don't like him. But I can't work up any really good, satisfying hate against him, unfortunately, because sports-hate is fun. And I really enjoy watching him play.

Oh, that's what I meant - I love his game. What else is there to love, anyway?
Roddick hate isn't fun anymore because he always loses.

I used to hate Muzza when he was a whiny little bitch (like Gasquet), but he's toughened up (not like Gasquet) and comes across as a likable nerd, so meh. And his game is really pretty to watch when he doesn't get into pusher mode.
Speaking of the comparison, that RG 1st round match really showed it, huh.
I'm the same as Alex with all the top players. I don't dislike any of them. I don't want them to lose. Rodduck may be the only one, because the guy is really an ass, but he stinks now. And maybe Tsonga because he plays like such a dope most of the time.
