Silliams has w/d! Unless Ste. Kim wins MTL, Wozniacki will be top seed This tournament could well be even more of a mess than RG.

Sharapova drew Grothosova, which could make things immediately awesome, but probably won't.

Also Bepa 3's 2R against either Lisicki or COCO (0-1 H2H) is giving me an ulcer. She gets through that, SF or better, probably.

Bepa is the winner of the best draw. I'm surprised. If Vee has struggles, that will be the quarter where silly things occur, though.

I knew Vee would get Pironkova again, I just knew it.

If Vee has struggles, that will be the quarter where silly things occur, though. I think it's quite obvious that Azza is going to the SF there. And KFC at the bottom. I think the top half is where it might get a little hairy, particularly if both WozDen and Pova have off-days.

Who knows with Azza, though. Also, if COURAGE gains any sort of form again... ugh.

Who knows with Azza, though. You know where she stands more than you do with any of the flakes in the top half, though. In fact, the more I think about it, the more I have to like WozDen's chances to repeat '09. Anyone can beat her, but she won't flame out. I KNOW! Bitch got hooked up.

There were two players named Madison in the qualy draw. From Wikipedia: Madison rose to being the second most popular name, after Emily, given to female babies in 2001.[1] This phenomenal rise in popularity has been attributed to the 1984 movie Splash, where Daryl Hannah played a mermaid who adopted the name "Madison" in her human form after seeing a street sign for Madison Avenue. When this selection was made, Tom Hanks's character initially protests: "But Madison isn't a name!" /me thinks he was right. The name has begun to see a decline in popularity in the past few years, slipping to #7 by 2009.

No one cared about "Splash" in 2001. But it would make sense for the two tennis-playing Madisons.

Considering the insanity potential, it's balanced out pretty well, I think. Q1 - Weak top seed WozDen countered by underranked Sweta and Shrieka (aargh, another bad Slam draw for Mrs. Krumm ). Lee Na also acceptable. Q2 - this is the one that will fall apart. Halep should see it as a prime opportunity to make a name for herself for something other than her tits. God, Wickmayer could easily quarter again. Prime opportunity for Bepa, of course, but if she loses to Vandeweghe again in the second round... Q3 - overranked Fran countered by underranked Azza. at Venus/Tsveti, round III. Only thing is, Pironkova won't get there. IIRC Venus plays Azza well, usually. Q4 - KFC territory Kleybanova should be looking to make the QF, though. at COURAGE's home draw.

I think what would have happened by 2001 is that the name's popularity had taken on a gruesome life of its own, and that few remembered why Madison became popular in the first place.

I'm sorry, I meant for the Madison debate to go in the qualy thread.

There's some talk about JJ suffering from heartache. If that's true, that section could easily fall apart. And the beneficiary could be KKKanepi. Or Jeepers, who knows. A good chance for BAG to reach R3. That would be a real progress!
Also, the RG CHAMPION has an ideal draw to win two matches in a row, a rare feat for her these days. Although, I could imagine that Oudin would start BELIEVING again and beat her once they get there.

Just noticed that MOST of the Qs will get sweet draws - anyone who makes it through three Q rounds would probably be favoured over Molik, Scheepers, Ferguson, COURAGE, Pervak, Bammer and Wozniak; Hercog and Benesova are certainly beatable; and on top of all of those, there's a Q vs Q spot

Week 1 is going to be very hot. 90+ and bright sun every day, although not that humid. Expect fatigue issues.

There is a similar thread in WTAW, and I noticed that someone posted his or her picks at exactly the same time as I did, and he or she picked Safina to the QF as well Everyone -- EVERYONE -- is going either Sharapova/Wozniacki, and then Zvonareva, Azarenka, Clijsters. It can't be that easy, right?

Also Bepa 3's 2R against either Lisicki or COCO (0-1 H2H) is giving me an ulcer. She gets through that, SF or better, probably. It'll be Coco. Lisicki is barely winning games in her comeback. And...0-1. If Bepa fucks up there...screwing up a great draw as well as setting up Coco hype...

Oh wait, I read that Kirilenko injured her back in NH.
That Kuznetsova section could be key to the whole draw. Kirilenko's beaten her twice this year already, and has been playing up for the Slams, but those wins were in the SWETASLUMP. Every round post-Krumm will be a significant hurdle for Sweta, but if she gets through them, I might take her over Maria in the QF. And Bepa in the SF. But not KFC in the final.
