I've still never seen Mountains play. I still don't really believe in him.
Only saw the last couple of games of Bepa/Lisicki...and what, I've only just noticed that Shvedova managed to lose to LDL in the 1R, WTF.

Capra with the luckiest break back, hitting the outside of line 4 times in one game.
Montanes plays like every clay courter. Run around every backhand, big loopy forehand, quick service motion with some pace, ugly.

Can anyone on TV ever say about the Oudins and Capras, that they're not that good and their opponents were sucky UE machines. Just once. They did just point to Caravane's UE total. But they're a little overexcited because they, or at least Burgin, know BC, and have known her since she was a little girl, so they couldn't help getting carried away. Anyway, she's in the 3rd round! So rare to see a US qualifier ever do that. And I think she got in qualies by winning the pre-qualy thing? So it's a great story.

CAPRA IS GOAT.
Bielik! I remember her run. USO '02 was it? She lost to Justine, the only thing I remember about that match was that she hit the net with her racquet once, but the umpire didn't see it and she was awarded the point. The Eurosport commentator freaked out about how ZOMG Bielik cheated!!! She cheated!!!!1

Oh, okay. So what she won was the WC invitational tournament which the USTA holds for 8 players of their choice. She still earned her way in via tennis, not via IMG or whatever. By the way she trains at the Evert Academy, not the Bollettieri one. That explains the quiet Chris-like demeanor, as well as the defensive game style. It is Nicky B who hatches all the ball-bashing screamers and every-point fist-pumpers. I'm always happy to see Caravane exit, too, so for me the match was a two-fer.

All I remember about Elise is that she was named to the US Olympic team and was all set to go, and then Queen Evert decided at the last minute that SHE'D like to go, after spurning it before, so Elise got bumped. But maybe I read that in the same book you're talking about, in fact, probably.

Tim Smyczek and Beatrice Capra will make their Grand Slam debuts at the U.S. Open after winning the U.S. Open Wild Card Playoff on Friday at the USTA Training Center in Boca Raton.
Apparently it was REALLY HOT there. Perfect preparation for Capra!
