I wonder if she hadn't continued in her Wimbledon match if it would have helped? Of course she would have been excoriated for quitting the match, but who cares about that compared to not being able to play.

It seemed like Na didn't know either: Q. As you probably know, Justine Henin is retiring for good. Do you think it's a big loss for women's tennis?
NA LI: Why?
Q. Because of her injury she can't play anymore. Do you think it's a big loss for women's tennis?
NA LI: Of course she's amazing player. I mean, but for the player, if you are injury, I mean, this is the worst. Player have to stay healthy.
Of course it was sad for the fans, because she's amazing player. After she tried to come back, I mean, last year only play half season, injury, and then this year I can see. I mean, of course she try a lot in the winter training, but still injury.
Yeah.[/b]

"You are injury", "I am injury"... this is number 57 on Rebecca Teacher's favorite errors. It's an understandable error, which is why it's so far down the list.

"I am boring" is my absolute favorite. I spent ten minutes ramming this one into my students heads about a month ago.
"If I'm boring, who is bored?" "You?" "No, I'm not bored. I'm boring. Who is bored?" "Students...?" "YES! I'm boring. I'm the teacher. My students are bored. Who are my students?" "We are bored?" "YES. Super!"
Fun times!

It may be dumb, but Justine really has done that for me. The way she retired and began her return only a year later. Ending her career with a loss to Stosur, at her slam, which I fully expected, such a sad way to end it. Justine was a rare player on SEWTA that I actually looked up to for her hard work and her faux "retirement" just ruined all of that. Seemingly quitting on the spur of the moment, so she could live her life. Which basically ended up as doing celebrity junk and taking a year off. Blaaaah. Leaves such a sour taste in my mouth. I think it might just be the nature of the beast. Justine seems a bit capricious. Remember her quick marriage and rapid divorce?

I blocked that wuss out of my memory. Really, what was Justine thinking with that one. Jean Luke or whatever his name was.

Just because he explores the joys of anal sex in Brussels saunas doesn't mean that he's gay.

To be fair, that guy was clearly not a heterosexual. She didn't realize that when she married him? I think Justine is guilty of some bizarre decision-making sometimes, that's all. She also seems to add/discard people often. Yes, Carlos has been there always, but look at her family. And Mr. Hardenne. Also, check out the contradictions in her career. She cared so much about the French Open in 2004 that she played there despite being sick as dog. Same with the Olympics that same year. The year before she beat JenFat in that epic semifinal which would have finished any normal person for the next day's match but yet she came back and beat Kim for the title. And then she retired in the final of Slam because of heartburn and a bad night's sleep. Then she had her greatest season and decided to cap it off by quitting. What the hell?

Yeah the quitting was a flaking out of epic proportions but some other things were more consistent. She was married for 5 years, that's not adding/discarding people quickly. She was weird with injuries, the smallest ones would freak her out and make her paranoid and other times she'd play through broken fingers and cramps but that AO retirement was more than just heartburn.

Yeah, I don't really see much evidence for the adding/discarding people quickly bit.

I think part of her weirdness with injuries was whatever happened in 2004. She said a lot of strange things about her endless "sickness" around then, which the pessimist in me thinks was steroids.

There was no way in hell she was married for five years!!! Oh. Well, a little more than four, actually. Hmm. I don't know why I didn't remember them being together that long. I thought it was max two years.

You probably blocked out the extra two years because you couldn't believe she was still married to a man who is clearly not heterosexual. Understandable. Part of me still thinks they were just kidding.

Oh, really? Like what? I don't *like* to think that any of the players are on roids, so there's my bias right there. But Justine's name came up a few times. Didn't Kim's camp make some dark hints about it in 2003? And I know JenFat alluded to Justine on roids in 2003. Do you ever wonder whether the Williams sisters' frequent absences are planned roid cycles?

It would be, um, ironic if she did. I seem to recall she wasn't too keen on the idea of blood tests.

Not to mention Capriati is the player who transformed from fat to fit in the fishy timeframe of 4-6 weeks. I saw her play in Philly in Nov. of the year before her AO/RG glory and she was BIG, as in fat. Then suddenly she was solid muscle in January. However, I don't remember Jennifer or any other Tour player making any drug comments about JH; only Kim's Dad and a couple of other Kim-side Belgians, right after JH beat Kim in the USO final when they were bitter and deranged with disappointment in their saint. Of course, many posters at wtaworld have also had their well-informed say, but those people are always bitter and deranged.

Yes, Jennifer lost ... what was it? 2 and 0 at the WTA Championships in 2003? This was right after their USO classic. She was asked about Justine's fitness and she responded with, "Yeah, it's amazing how fast she recovers." It was noted in the transcription that she was being extremely sarcastic. What else could that mean?
It occurred to me that she might be no stranger to steroids. But I don't remember things quite the same way, Janie. When she played AO 2001, I think she still had a bit of a gut. In fact, I think she mostly did for the rest of her career.

She could have meant that Justine was faking her injuries/ailments (remember, that was all the rage back in the day), not that she's roiding it up. Fat wasn't the sharpest tool in the box, yeah, but even she would know how ridiculous it would be if she was the one accusing anyone of doping.

Yes, from what I quoted she could have meant that as well. However, I think that would have occurred to me at the time unless there was something else in either the question or the response which made me think she meant roids. I don't remember the verbatim Q&A. You could be right. But it came on the heels of the allegations from the Clijsters camp and even though Jennifer is not that bright, she often inserted little bitchy comments into her PCs. Yes, it would be appalling and stupid of her to come right out and say it which is why I always thought she chose to say it in an oblique way.

Do you ever wonder whether the Williams sisters' frequent absences are planned roid cycles? I think it was USO 04, Justine was going on about how she needed machines to breathe or something, and this was while she was playing. And Willow mentioned blood tests about her eternal fatigue, she would get defensive about it. All I know is, look at Justine's legs at AO and IW in 04, and after. I suspect foul play. Yeah, don't most assume that with JenFat? Her immediate disappearance from society since 2004 until she was on some stupid TV show last year kinda made things obvious.

Doping accusations against anyone without proof are made by stupid people.
Doping speculation against anyone without proof is only marginally less retarded.
