And already Gianni Mina and P. Polansky have bit the dust. Dang, bad start to men's qualies!

Too bad, last year's jr champ Augie Velotti lost to useless Eric Prodon. Jan Hernych(CZE) def. Laurent Rochette(FRA) 6-7(4) 6-3 6-3 7 ft. 3 in.Schoorel (as per the RG biography) def. Nielsen. The Dutchie has been rampant at the Challenger level, and is tall (although not Manute Bol tall).

Jan Hernych did not, but at least lost to a Mayer. Generally speaking, that's a motley collection of qualifiers. The women's are much more interesting, I guess because of the has-beens combined with genuine RNCs like Watson.

One of the few genuine non-distaff RNCs, R.Harrison, lost to Javier Marti, who is just 19yo himself

Falla is on his way to a heroic 3-set qualification over Di Mauro.
