and I think Lowdra is the correct pronunciation. The double Ls only change in Spanish. I thought that, but in Paris, he was introduced as Meekay Yodrah! I don't recall any LL starting names in French, so I don't know.

Maybe it's a Hispanic name that's been Gallicised? Only languages with LL-starting names that I know of are Spanish and Welsh. And Chewitt's parents trying to be "different".
I didn't know that about Michaƫl! So if it's a legit French spelling, it must still be quite archaic I guess, or at least alternative? Never come across it before, Michel seems a lot more common.

Didn't Cetkovska lose to BAG 6-0, 6-0 in the 4R of RG '08? She sure did, while hitting winners from all over the court. Can't wait for her USO final against Lapushchenkova, 900 winners for each! I know, I'm being mean today. It's been a rough spring. (previous knowledge of TBE's recent posts/tweets about Cetkovska and RussianBoy's LaPush meme not mandatory but recommended) Funny thing about Lapuschshchhshchsenkova was that a couple of the matches of her legendary Stuttgart run got televised, and she was a fun basher who indeed hit winners from all over the court. Except I do want Woz to win a Slam. Not playing her uber-cautious style, but playing smart and aggressively when needed. So...you want some other player who doesn't exist to win a Slam, then. I'm busy for one work week and y'all go crazy. That player might still come to exist some day. She's only 20. Wow, you're quoting goldenbot. That's not a good sign. Moreover, this point about her age disproves that perspective, in my opinion. 20 is much too late for a formative transformation. It's not feasible for her to become an aggressive player anymore. She can incorporate those elements into her game but the groundwork has been laid and has set. She is a Coetzer, and will never be a Tauzita. But that will probably be enough when she starts playing Halep in Slam finals.Hurley on a roll.

The Spanish name theory sounds reasonable. I also thought the use of trema suggested that the word was originally non-French and needed an extra mark so that it would be pronounced correctly outside the rules of French, like Citroen, Moet (Dutch?) and Gael (Gaelic/Breton?)

I still have hope Sunshine can change, because she has the ability. She did for like 2 matches in Dubai, where she was hitting winners everywhere. I do question if she wants to bother getting out of her comfort zone, though. I mean, she's #1 by a lot and can win the Premier tournaments the top players don't care about. That's still pretty awesome.
