As a technophobe, I have no idea how to find a "deadstream" or whatever you'd call it to watch a replay of this match. Can anyone lead me to a place? It would be especially fun if Tracy Austin is announcing and has to watch her beloved go down. :schadenfreude: I'd love to know how to do it! I tried to simply save some streams in the hope that some of them will show something later(And I simply don't close my LSHunter page and try to click on every working link)

I think ESPN3 will have it up eventually. If not, it should be on torrents soon.

I'd also like to note that I was spot on predicting a Women's GS final. For probably the first time ever.

Congrats to all those who predicted Kvitova def. Sharapova from the start of the Fortnight; really astounding that one, much less 3 or whatever of you got it right.

Congrats Leena, Alex, and me I called Kvitova 3 years ago, but I didn't think it would all happen so soon. Obviously she is a beneficiary of SEWTA chaos, but...man, if she had gotten by Li at the French, we might be talking about her double here, right? I know she won't be a model of consistency, but I hope she backs this up over the next year, not even necessarily with a Slam, but just...by proving that she will be a favorite for years to come. I have faith!

Petra's genuine shyness and awkwardness was so refreshing compared to Ma$ha's bullshit showiness. And she's actually gotten better at speaking. Yes! Exactly the angle of this report: www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/tennis/wimbledon/8612780/Wimbledon-2011-Petra-Kvitova-defeats-Maria-Sharapova-6-3-6-4-to-win-womens-singles-final-on-Centre-Court.htmlSo the moneyed and honeyed Maria Sharapova had her Wimbledon final hijacked by an opponent, who, in some ways, is an anti-Maria, an anti-celebrity.
The unstarry, unaffected Petra Kvitova, a 21 year-old from the Czech Republic who thinks of herself as a "jeans and T-shirt" kind of girl, and who could not even tell you who her favourite clothes designer is, played with a nerveless ease to defeat Sharapova on Centre Court for her first grand slam title.
It had been widely supposed that this title-match would bring a comeback victory for the world's highest-earning sportswoman, for the groomed and polished Sharapova, for the lady whose face has launched a thousand advertising campaigns, yet she was beaten by someone who does not appear to know how good she is.
Kvitova, ranked eighth in the world, certainly does not have the look of an athlete who has spent much time considering her own worth. Had Sharapova won this match, kisses would have been blown to all corners of Centre Court; in the moments after Kvitova's 6-3, 6-4 victory, which she had completed with an ace banged through into the backstop, the Czech sat on her chair with her hands covering her mouth.
During an on-court interview with the BBC, Kvitova broke off and half turned away when she thought that Sue Barker was finished with her, so looking every bit like someone not used to what happens after winning a title on a big occasion. Soon after being presented with the Venus Rosewater Dish, she walked off the turf and was shown the honours board, which already had her name on it, and she let out a little embarrassed giggle, and she was then a touch self-conscious and awkward, though obviously pleased too, after she took the trophy out the back of the stadium to show the crowds.
Kvitova made for a low-to-middling tennis celebrity, and a superb, delightful Wimbledon champion.

I swear she'd have beaten every other seed before the 3R except Kvitova. And who knows how far Li would have gone in a different section...we might be talking about THAT double right now. I'm glad it went the way it did though

I have faith! No, I don't make predictions before slams anymore because they're Ree/Vee/Ma$ha *grumble* every time. The match went as I thought, though. Also, while I picked on you back then for thinking Petra would be great, I concurred about her talent. The problem was she was fat then, and I hate fat players. Since 2010 Memphis (oddly enough, when she lost to Ma$ha, I've been on board). And she should have beat me at RG, too. She dominated the first half of that match, then you know. But, you can always use "should" with GOATra, I suppose.

I've just remembered I was actually THERE when this all started.
I went to see Zheng when I went to Wimbledon last year. Expected her to beat the then-hopeless Kvitova, who'd significantly regressed from her 2008 breakthrough results, easily. It went the other way. I don't think I ever actually wrote up my Wimbledon report from 2010, but I wouldn't have predicted GOATness anyway, it wasn't one of those matches.
But anyway, what was significant was that Richard Williams was watching (on a totally random outside court). I thought this was odd at the time. And later in the tournament, Serena made a point of saying how she knew Kvitova would be her SF opponent, since she'd clocked how good she was in earlier rounds.

Too bad. " Members of Petra Kvitova's entourage celebrate her win at Wimbledon, but their over-enthusiasm leads to a fall." ... Anna Wintour is seen in the background looking totally DISGUSTED. They don't behave like this in Roger's box.

Serena thinks every basher is great. Grothosova was going to be top 5 now too, or something.
Petra was adorable after the match. She acted like every 21-year old girl should in that situation, which we never see now thanks to millionaire athletes and the ass kissing they receive.

So many things about this match: A: That Hurley and Lex actually called the final from the start of the tournament is so impressive. This tournament was so wide-open. B: Today's match was NID. I (and Leena) knew Sharapova could never beat her with that serve. C: Kvitova reminds me of Davenport but hopefully things will turn out better than that did. D: For this player, today's win should be only the beginning of great things. The sky is the limit right now for two reasons - her vast talent and the lack of anybody who might present a true and consistent challenge. The door is open to win a lot. I hope she doesn't go back to losing in Challengers now. E: There was much too much 'dog bark' emoticon in this thread.

The British press love Maria, don't they? www.guardian.co.uk/sport/blog/2011/jul/02/maria-sharapova-wimbledon?intcmp=239The success Sharapova achieved at 17 means that she is already being seen as a senior member of the tour, and it may be that she will find it difficult to maintain her competitiveness in the face of a rising generation represented by Kvitova and Lisicki. But you would have to be crazy to bet against her making it to another Wimbledon final before she takes her place in the Royal Box as the most regal former champion of them all.

THIS surprised me.
“She’s very sweet,” the 54-year-old Navratilova told reporters. “It’s funny because I haven’t had that many players that said ‘You’re my hero.’ It’s nice.”
I thought a lot of players idolised Martina growing up.

The Telegraph article is nice, but I wonder why a t-shirt and jeans girl who doesn't have a favourite designer had Anna Wintour in her box?
The moment they showed her her name on the board was very cute, though.

I realized that since 2002 (when I started watching tennis) not a single one of my preferred WTA players has won a title here. First time since 1998 my top favourite player wins a GS anywhere. Novotna (poetic justice) Dementieva Vaidisova Kvitova I remember shopping for faves who would actually win stuff for most of 2010, but I eventually gave up and stuck with the "love at first sight" players I already liked at the time since I couldn't force myself to pick some top tenner I merely tolerated to root for (which was how I saw say Toria Azarenka) just for the purpose of glory hogging. Kvitova wasn't a "pick" in the sense that I chose to support her to be able to brag later on when she won big; she was simply the player I found most fun to watch with her highlights reel game - even when she's bashing everything into the stands. Actually, I never thought she'd become a top ten player, let alone win this big (though I began to raise my hopes when she kept showing how clutch and unflappable she is). When Hurley predicted Kvitty to make the top 10 a couple of years back, I strongly disagreed as I couldn't see her as ever becoming anything else but an "ambush" player who could beat anyone on her best surfaces and/or when the circumstances were ideal.

Corswandt...even now you say you can't see her winning a handful of Slams.
Maybe time to admit your favourite player is actually a lot better than you think?
I'm more on Sjengster's side. I think the sky is the limit. And not just on fast surfaces. I wouldn't say she can dominate Serena-style...but everything short of that is well within reach.

The Telegraph article is nice, but I wonder why a t-shirt and jeans girl who doesn't have a favourite designer had Anna Wintour in her box? I doubt she knows who Wintour is. Probably her presence there was some corporate Nike thing. I loved that she had no idea who her "favorite designer" is, not knowing the names of any. I've been wishing for an elite WTA player who doesn't claim to love fashion, claim to design their own tennis outfits, or make sure to plug the jeweler who provided the gaudy baubles selected especially for said outfits.

If you don't pretend to care about fashion, you're throwing away millions. We could definitely do with tennis players not making their own clothes anymore, though.

They both looked great, though Nole's waistcoat is a bit iffy. Corswandt, at the beginning of the fortnight you thought Kvitty was going down to Alexa Glatch. Seriously, unlike other risky players, she apparently has some of the intangibles required for grand slam success. Of course she could pull a BAG et al. and get into a tailspin, but it's worth being optimistic.

I don't think Kvitty is going to win a bundle of slams. She's too erratic, and I don't think she can improve that much. Barring injury, I highly doubt she'll do a BAG or Safina fall, either.
