Why is Jelena so bad? She's always been an up and down player (look at 2006...yikes), but she's been consistently under-performing for over a year. It's sad, because she can actually play tennis. Sometimes it really looks like she just doesn't give a damn out there.

Going back in time, I have to say the King-Woz match was entertaining, much closer than the score. After a sluggish start Woz started finding her game, keeping Vania on her heels, but Vania also hit some nice winners and despite her sad 2nd serve, she really belongs back in the ~40-70 ranking range she reached before. It's not all about the doubles, Vania! And yeah, Skippers was a surprise. And it was fun to catch some JesusFed.

Sometimes it really looks like she just doesn't give a damn out there. Maybe she cares, but not enough to put in the insane amount of work needed to stay in the top 5. Maybe she only cares enough to work just hard enough to stay where she is. Like Zvereva, who once said her favorite ranking would be #8 because at that level she wouldn't have to work as hard as she would to move higher. I loved Natasha, but I don't like to root for that sort of player any more.

I think I'll root for Serena. I want her to either: A) Destroy Caro, like Venus did to Safina at Wimbledon '09. B) Lose to Caro. No bullshit 6-3, 6-3 win in the SF or something. Idem in me. Why is Jelena so bad? She's always been an up and down player (look at 2006...yikes), but she's been consistently under-performing for over a year. It's sad, because she can actually play tennis. Sometimes it really looks like she just doesn't give a damn out there. She's burnt out due to overplaying during her peak years. She has said, or at least implied, so herself IIRC.

Serena & Vika is a good match. Rallies are played at a phenomenal speed for SEWTA level.

JJ also isn't that good. Her serve has always been shit. Her shots go wonky at times, see the BH today. And she's as much as a mental midget as anyone, just against different players than most do.
It's hilarious how Serena is lapping the field. Nobody comes close to hitting the ball like she does anymore.

Dolgirlpolov has been hitting some wondrous shots. I must say that Alexandr really impressed me. He's cut out a lot of the silliness in his game, and can hit some ridiculous shots with excellent defense. And he suddenly learned how to bug serve. Negative is that he seems like the type that doesn't care and wanders at times. Thus, he'll aggravate me soon.

Serena really is miles ahead of everyone else. That was awesome tennis. She's such a great point constructer now, and when she's calm and controlled like that, and not shrieking and hysterical, she's excellent to watch. LOL @ Vika playing about as well and as aggressively as I've ever seen and it should still have been 1 and 3. The fightback was weird, for a second I thought the score would end up being 6-1 5-7 6-1.
I can't even bear to watch AJDEEEEEEEEE any more. And she STILL can't toss the ball. So lucky to still be here. Golden set her, Serena.

I did, while packing, from Sweta serving at *5-2 in the first. Akgul hit some tremendous shots for two games - big FHs that really connected, one awesome slice BH winner that Sweta applauded. Too late to save the set and in the second she reverted back to what I've usually seen from her - stroke production so awkward that she either has to go for too much too early, or it just breaks down on a routine shot, and if the serve isn't fully on then that's that. As ever I wonder, given her physical gifts and genuinely natural touch, how good she could have been if she'd had quality coaching early enough to give her remotely adequate groundstrokes.
