I am really starting to like this Makiri this week. She doesn't have the huge firepower but she's smart and so bold out there. So rare to see a player rush the net the way she does, especially against such a heavy hitter. And even at 0-5 she didn't look like she ever thought she was out of this match, and now she's at least in this 2nd set, 3-all. I like you, Ma¢ha! And how about that, she gets the break!

I do like that Masha is coming to net a good amount. She's good up there. I recall her too often in the past be willing to bash from the baseline. She'll probably lose, but she's doing the right stuff.

And she forced a TB! Not bad after that horrible start.
But yeah, I think she'll lose in straight sets. But at least I discovered a player to start rooting for.

Stosur's bass-voiced "COME ON" is about as annoying as they get.

Going to bed now. Kirilenko was cramping at the end of her TWO-set match the other night, so it's hard to imagine she'll have what it takes to fight that hard to the bitter end. But I sure hope she will, now that I love her.

I can't imagine Masha's mental state when she had to challenge TWICE on MP down and won both of them.
It's good that this has been a well-played match for the most part, as well. Except for Stosur's DF at 15-all. Usually the SEWTA drama fests are brutal.

No no, I'm loving this draw. She knocks out Sabine, a player she historically struggles against, with ease. This sets up a run through the two players she had her Faymoose Meltdowns against, followed by avenging the Wimbledon final blowout. DESTINY!

Bepa was 3-0 against Lisicki! All of which when Sabine was quite good. C'mon.
I'll be absolutely stunned if Bepa beats Stosur. I recall watching at least 2 of their matches. Bepa better serve out of her mind.

The hardline segregation between men's and women's tennis is so aggravating. I can't imagine only caring about one of them. Well, before women's tennis became SEWTA, anyway, though evidently that hasn't stopped us.
I'll be shocked if Bepa overcomes Stosur now and am not even going to begin entertaining the thought. She may have beaten Lisicki more easily than expected, but the result itself is still in line with past results.

And why is Stosur so impervious to SEWTA choking? She does it but still wins in the third set anyway. Why can't players I like do that.

I just watched the tie-break on youtube. So Masha had 3 correct challenges (all called out) on the same side? Who was that person who tried really really hard to give the match to Stosur? And what the chair umpire was doing there all that time? One of those was so much on the line that even I could see it on the small youtube screen. Imagine if that match was on the court without challenge system, ridiculous.
Huge credit to Maria for going to the net even being match points down.
That tie-break lasted for almost half-hour, amazing!
