Actually, it's not the same blob. The yellow stuff around Tennessee, that's the stuff that will stay around NY until at least Wed night.
Then, we'll see if Katia ruins the weekend.

You see I'd be Ok with her if she was openly bitchy or rude. It's hypocritical "Sunshine" image that annoys. She's totally the new version of St. Kim. She was just attention-whoring as usual.

But I think those are just the 2 sides of Woz. As a person with a cheery side (okay, maybe rarely seen here ;D ) and a mean side, I can relate to that. The fact that she likes goofy Rory McIlroy makes me think her sunshine side is totally for real, but it does exist alongside a darker side, thankfully.

The fact that she likes goofy Rory McIlroy makes me think her sunshine side is totally for real, but it does exist alongside a darker side, thankfully. She likes goofy Rory McIlroy, cause it brings her fame. She was hyping this affair all over her twitter even when it was "secret". I don't think she's even that mean with that copying Rafa's cramping. She was just trying to get attention as usually and didn't think it through. Considering her own cramping drama at those WTA Champs it's even more thoughtless.

Post by janie on Sept 7, 2011 8:13:06 GMT -5
You could be right about her fame-seeking romance and attention-seeking antics, but I don't see it that way. To me she's just a kid who wants people to like her, like most young women that age. She's bland and boring, but a lot of tennis players are bland and boring.
But of course I could be wrong; maybe she really is, as per Teen Hate Forum, just a nasty, stupid, scheming, hypocritical, talentless pusher whose wins have all been due solely to luck, and who deserves death or at least grave disfigurement for these crimes.

Post by Traveling Man on Sept 7, 2011 10:09:26 GMT -5
Ofcourse this is where I'll jump at the opportunity to bring up my faves because they're irrelevant now.
Janie, Monica was a young woman who wanted everyone to like her (when she was loathed and despised by all in the early 90s). She'd do stupid things but rarely did it involve other players.
On the flip side, it is said that you have to be arrogant to be the world number one. Someone once posted on TF that all the number ones were viewed as either mannish, aggressive bitches (Serena, Martina Nav, King) or ice-queen machines (Graf, Evert, Henin, Venus) and all of them were extremely arrogant with Martina Hingis leading the pack in that category obviously. Where would you guys lump Sunshine - she doesn't fit the bill in any category from what I've seen.

Day 9.
Sept 7, 2011 12:26:30 GMT -5
Post by Old Hag on Sept 7, 2011 12:26:30 GMT -5
I think Karolina falls into the ice queen range, on court. The pressure is coming from everywhere for her to be more aggressive, and she just plays her game which is working for the most part. Nothing seems to deter her while she's playing.
Monica and Marti Nav especially were desperate in their need to feel liked when they were ~20. Probably all girls are then, we even saw Hingis' emotions after the 99 RG debacle.
Woz has become the perfect hate magnet. She's been known as "Smiling Sunshine!" since she was young, thus she's always been fake (and she is fake, remember the swearing incidents early in her career). You probably knew similar goody goody types in school. She didn't know what it was like for people to not "like" her. Suddenly, she becomes #1, the media is on her ass, and you have hate-filled jerks like us that are pissed with the state of SEWTA and this pusher is not helping whatsoever. She probably doesn't even understand any of this hate. Thus, she does what she's always done... make cute little funnies, and smile away, except none of us on the cynical world stage are going to buy that crap (unless you're grotesque like K. Clijsters).

The thing about the swearing is that when we called her Pottymouth, that wasn't (to me) intended as a criticism. I would have preferred that. Its the forced fakeness that I don't like. Martina was rude, but she was completely guileless. She was less fun when she tried to be nice.

Post by lexpretend on Sept 7, 2011 13:14:54 GMT -5
And when Serena is nice you immediately suspect an ulterior motive. Or at least, when she's nice about another player's game, it's an immediate sign of how little she fears it.
There are plenty of nice players that we respect as such. Look at Tammy or SexyDomi. But as Leena said, St. Kim and Woz are the fake goody-goody kind of nice. Look at all the bitchy and stupid shit Kim's said and done over her career, it's astonishing she has the Saint of Niceness rep at all. But like Flake, when the press get hold of an angle like that they just run with it forever, regardless of any evidence.
That classification of WTA #1s is interesting, especially w/r/t how the subtext of both archetypes is that they're somehow unfeminine, not Good Women. Wozniacki doesn't fit among that company though. Those women all had a real cultural impact. Wozniacki barely has an impact within tennis. If she did what she did and actually dominated the sport, even with the pusher game, you'd have to at least respect that. But when she repeatedly looks so helpless in defeat, it's just not a defensible situation.
