Red Sox Nation, I hope you did not get used to winning World Series. Now that the Curse of the Bambino is dead, all hail the Curse of Robert Andino!
Longoria ... that performance will live forever in baseball lore. He'll never top that.
The playoffs are gonna suck, aren't they? They can't be this good, can they?

Such craziness. I'm sure Girardi threw that game! Yankee fan first, manager second.

Well, Rivera did not come in for the ninth, did he?
Girardi said before the series he had no intention of using his front-line starting pitchers or all his regulars. It's an interesting contrast to Philly manager Manuel. He said it wasn't right to play subs against a team still fighting for a playoff spot so he didn't. The Braves got the Phillies A-team in each game. The Phillies were in the same position as the Yanks.
You know, it doesn't matter how boring baseball gets or how much it can suck or how many roids people do. There's always a magic and quirkiness to it that surfaces every now and then which reminds you why you cared in the first place.

The Yankees feel so guilty about blocking the Red Sox from the playoffs, that they have decided to block themselves out of the Detroit series.

It would be the height of quirky craziness if A.J. Burnett came out and hurled a complete game shutout, wouldn't it?

LOL. That will not happen. I watched enough A.J. Burnett when he was (unfortunately) in Toronto that I well know he's incapable of coming through in the clutch. The Tigers will win and take it in four. The Yanks really needed to win the pitcher's duel between Sabathia and Verlander. It was odd seeing C.C. melt in the middle innings. I think he was affected by the Game One rainout.
Verlander, meanwhile, is fucking scary. I have no idea how NYY managed four runs off that guy. He threw 101 mph in the eighth inning!!!@!
By the way, C.C. Sabathia probably has to buy two seats on every plane, right?

Burnett has started 98 games for NYY in 3 seasons. He's 34-35. His LIFETIME ERA is over 4. In NY, it's been even worse as the last two years he has closed with an ERA over 5. 4.79 in NY.
He's been bad in the post-season, too. 1-2 in 6 starts, ERA of 5.67.
But they're only paying him 16.5 million a year. It's a bargain. Sure, any Triple-A guy could replicate those numbers for $350,000 but hey! It's A.J.!

Nice to see people earn their keep in one fell swoop

Fuck. That would be my comeuppance for posting Burnett's career stats.
Still, I laugh at how little faith Girardi has in him. He only let him throw 81 pitches and 5 and 2/3rds innings.
Now NYY gets to play an elimination game in NY. This isn't good.
Oh, Leyland? Too old to manage. I'm surprised he didn't stay in St. Petersburg on one of the Tigers' road trips to TB.

Ha! It wasn't quite a complete game shutout, but not too shabby.

All's well that ends well. Rodriguez hit about .111 in the Series. Not the first time he's chumped up when it mattered, right? I like that both the NLDS series are going to elimination games. Halladay v. Carpenter in an ex-Jay fight-for-my-love kinda deal.

I was watching the game on mlb.com ... just the highlights ... it was so good. Two clutch A-Rod K's. Jeter flying out to the warning track in the eighth. Sniff, classic.
Leyland said it was a game he would remember for the rest of his life. I was wondering how long he thinks that might be.
