I see that Naud will retire at the end of the year. Probably at the Bercy indoors. I might have already read that and forgot. Maybe I should retire The word on the street is that he is on the short list to replace Forget as DC captain.

Non! Forget can still do it! Lepchenko finally manages to close it out. Good record for the USians so far this RG, thanks in large part to almost-suspiciously friendly draws.

Falla lost the civil war. "Amazing scenes on No.1 Court: Clement gets to match point at 4-5, advantage on Bogomolov’s service and the American cramps up. He tries to stretch it out, serves a fault but can’t serve a second 'un so gives up on match point! Pfff… Clement won’t mind though – he’s through! The 34-year-old will face the winner of Radek Stepanek – David Goffin, which is under way at the moment. The Belgian lucky loser took the opener 6-2 but the Czech no.23 seed has just leveled it at 1-1." "My career plan: turn Russian and suck." -- A.Bogomolov's Brain. Go Ka. Pliskova.

You might remember Goffin from a height controversy. For some reason he was listed as 5'4", whereas he is really 5'11". Maybe it was a "he's Belgian, he must be tiny" stereotyping.

Ha! No, I don't remember that controversy. Congrats to the happy Canadian groom! Darkness finally halts play in the old-timey Haas-Volandri match. I say old-timey because of the way the guys just get on with playing without all this farting about between points. Also both have 1-handed BHs and Tommy came forward a lot. Fun match to watch.

I'm really disappointed Jankovic won. That's quite sad.
Did we ever get any word on what the hell was wrong with Barthel?
I can't believe Tammy still owns a top 100 singles ranking. She's 35 now!
Huh. I think she's about due to win Eastbourne or something.
Interesting that Fed was broken three times against Kamke. Also, five double faults. I thought his serve was way off against Djokovic in Rome so this bears watching.
Nalbandian losing, L-O-L!
I'm going to pretend I didn't see Kevin Anderson grinding out a clay court win deep in a fifth set.
Why do you think Hewitt felt the need to play here?
Good start for Milos.

God, it's exhausting catching up with a million results at the end of the day. Roll on the end of this week. Then, free forever. I glanced at the scoreboard intermittently. I saw that the 4-0 game of Azza/Brianti was a multideuce one and KNEW right then, just from the SB, that it would be the crucial turning point. Then Azza won it, then I turned away to do some work, and then I was not even the tiniest bit surprised 15 minutes later to see how that story was going. Obviously MauMau has been imparting her RG wisdom effectively And a positive, obviously, to see that Azza is vulnerable. If Brianti can do this to her then every other player in her section should be heartened. I think a 1-6, 6-1, 7-5 scoreline against Mayr-Achleitner doesn't actually salvage whatever scraps of dignity JaJa still possesses. It's all gone. Alllllll gone. Lee Na's nightmare draw has suddenly turned sweet as she navigates Discount BAG and Barthel...WTF? I...what? 10K players could get more than two games off Davis. TAMMY won more than two games. Latisha rescuing her career She had 3R+Q points to defend and has almost done it The only tennis I saw was the end of Twilight/Harrison. Ryan really is an appalling little shit. When your opponent hits an impossibly angled BH followed by an impossible sprint to reach your dropshot, berating yourself like that is not a good look. I wish I'd seen the RG crowd give him the treatment. MauMau was on British TV disapproving of Bogomolov's retirement. Then John Inverdale started talking about how playing in front of his home crowd must have inspired Clément, and she went silent

She gave a rather cheerful post-match interview and was like "don't know what happened, you win some you lose some". Pretty lame. That's pretty disturbing. Unless it's a coverup and she was actually wailing or kicking lockers earlier, and then hiding her agony from the interviewer. Woz used to do that.

Something which irritates me about Evert is how she cannot stop mentioning her own career. She is forever likening what's happening to this or that glorious moment of her own career. Shut up! Chrissie is the worst announcer there is. She adds nothing to matches, and comes across as pure arrogance. And she's been doing it for like 20 years now. Meanwhile, Old Hag can spout off the entire history of SEWTA and truly never shut up, yet get no work beyond Tennis Channel.

I agree. Chris is horrendous and needs fired. I wrote a whole crabby post about this earlier in response to Grarliner's post, but then I deleted it because Evert is awful in far too many ways to spell out. I'd much rather listen to you, Leena, or to any other poster here, all of whom would actually know who the players are before the match starts. And if somehow they didn't know much about some obscure player, well, duh, they'd go find out. Chris somehow thinks she doesn't need to know any background to commentate.

She knows four players. Serena, Maria, Venus and whoever is #1. Everybody else sucks in her world. I laughed hard when she likened today's match to her defeating Golarsa at Wimbledon. You could hear the gloating behind her words OVER A MATCH WHICH HAPPENED THIRTY FUCKING YEARS AGO! She was especially thrilled to note that Martina came to watch because she thought she would lose. Let's just say it's not hard to see why this woman has been divorced so much.
