Rus up 2-0 now as Kanepi loses the plot. I should have predicted this, based on Kanepi's shaky history, but alas I did not.

It's really a fun atmosphere. The crowd's gotten involved, not letting Murray serve, booing and chanting "Richard" and clapping.

Every Kanepi FH makes me nervous. Much improved, but still a technically ugly shot for her. Please end this match, I would not like Maria to beat Rus 60 61 in the QF.

The Kanepi def. Maria scenario is looking laughable, even if she's starting this 3rd set well. Not sure she's going to make us any happier than Rus would in that match. I can't even see her losing while keeping MS out there slipping in the mud for 3 hours the way Klara did today.

YASSSS they both won How much was KKK up in the second set? Well, she was never in the lead actually. Wend down a break immediately. Then leveled up at 4-4 after being 2-4 down, had a break point to make it 5-4, missed a winnable point and the kinda fell apart. So not the usual script, thankfully Rus completely fell apart in the 3rd Kaia won first 12-14 points.

I am not that surprised by anything I've come home to.
- Lee Na is good and all but she just wasn't going to defend so this was going to happen at some point, may as well benefit a good player who could use the ranking boost - I predicted Gasquet to beat Murray based on form coming in, thought about putting money on it, and then...I remembered Murray's injury and KNEW Wuss would find a way to fuck it up - 2, 0 and 0 is just what Rafa does to the Principality/Almugz/Fit Dave types who play a B version of his game, the scoreline is totally expected because what exactly can Principality do to him? Outlast him? LOL - Varvara fought her way to her Olympic dream, no way would she have anything left to trouble Petra. I knew that this tournament we all seem to be superstitiously avoiding the subject of KvittyGOAT but...We Need To Talk About Petra now. She's basically kinda good, you guys.

We Need To Talk About Petra now. She's basically kinda good, you guys. She still plays way too stupidly, and it's been proven she can't get away with it. And the KvittyGOAT level has not been seen for a long time. She needs that to win slams. This draw for Rafa is death. His beatdowns of the lesser retrievers are impossible to watch, too. They take forever and they're yawns.

Post by Grarliner on Jun 4, 2012 23:56:56 GMT -5
Petra should be talked about, yes. I was thinking ... she has the tag of being inconsistent, which is true, but she was lumped in with the other two first time Slam winners last year as being unable to rise to the occasion subsequently. I don't know how true that really is. If you throw out the retarded shit she does at the US Open annually, every other Slam for two years has been a quality result for her. This one will be too, no matter what else happens. But I expect a great semifinal match between her and her greatest rival on Tour ... Kaia Kanepi.

With the win today, even if she loses in the QF, Petra will have the same W-L as Azza in the Slams. Peta is at SF, QF (or more), W, R1 while Azza is W, R3, SF, R3. I'm secretly hoping she can win the title here and defend Wimbledon. But ofcourse, there's always the chance of the Career Slam for Masha happening and that is a beautiful thought too. Just as long as one of them wins - which can only mean Errani def Kanepi in the final since the universe hates me.

Every time I predicted his loss, he actually lost! How many finales did he lose to Novak as I said he would? And when I think he has a chance like I did in Monte Carlo, Rome and here, I shut up and don't whine.

The Kvitova bemoaning is because she's not playing at the GOAT level we believe she's capable of, and hasn't won the big matches she should have this year. But lost in that is the fact that she had her best ever AO, and has now had her best ever RG. She's still in her first year of being a Slam winner. It's way too early to even write her chances off on US hardcourts.
She's just...too good. I feel relaxed about supporting her like I never felt relaxed about supporting Bepa or JaJa.

Post by Old Hag on Jun 5, 2012 10:59:08 GMT -5
Compared to those two, of course. I never thought Bepa could win a slam.
Our expectations are probably too high. I want KvittyGOAT to dominate the tour. We see that she can do it, and we really need her to. It's frustrating seeing her not improve since Wimbledon. She still brainlessly bashes at most times and makes matches harder than they need to be. I expected her to grow as a match player and realize that players will fold against her in most cases, instead of being a nervous choker herself.
She's had catwalk draws the last 2 slams, especially RG. And CSN had that AO match.
