Per Gimme on Twitter They just mentioned he was sick last week during NBC coverage of the French. They didn't specify anything else. And now he's dead. Look. In the last few years he became a terribly annoying commentator, one of the worst. BUT I give him credit for usually having decent info on the lower-ranked women, which is extremely rare. And I'm sure before my time he was a nice guy and a good conversationalist and a decent player, so RIP.

I always liked him. He seemed like such a comfortable, happy sort of guy. RIP, Mr. Mackay.

Awww. RIP, Barry.
Yeah, he hung on too long as an announcer, but he was great into the 2000s. He always did his research and was respectful. Also, a good player in the lost 50s-60s era.

This was cute:
For Gilbert, the Bay Area native who worked for Mr. MacKay as a ball boy when the event was at the Berkeley Tennis Club, Friday's news was hard to take. He remembered how proud Mr. MacKay was when a young Gilbert finally won the tournament.
"I had told him I was going to win one of those pyramids someday and he encouraged me," said Gilbert of the tournament that was sponsored by Transamerica (known for it's pyramid building). "But when I finally did it he handed me this candy dish and told me I'd won a Volvo. I kept saying 'Where's my pyramid?' and he was shushing me telling me about the change in sponsorship. But I really wanted that trophy. So a couple months later, he sent me an inscribed pyramid trophy. I was blown away. No tournament director had ever done anything like that for me before.
