What happened to Petra and Cake, was Cake zoning? I assume Shitra happened like we all knew it would due to her schedule. This avoids another annoying Sharapova match-up, at least. It's not like she was winning anything here. I fell asleep after a set of Manislas/Dolgirl last night, was v disappointed in the latter. Ugh, Robson can beat Li but not Stosur

What happened to Petra and Cake, was Cake zoning? From what I read at the time on Twitter, yeah, Cake was seriously zoning. Sure glad I didn't stay up to see if Petrova could maintain her 2-0 lead in the 3rd.

Bartoli Blitzes Kvitova for Spot in First Open Quarterfinal By BEN ROTHENBERG
No. 11 seed Marion Bartoli roared back to beat fifth-seeded Petra Kvitova, 1-6, 6-2, 6-0, on the Grandstand court Sunday to reach her first United States Open quarterfinal. Bartoli, who won the girls’ singles title in Flushing Meadows in 2001, has now reached the quarterfinal stage of all four Grand Slam tournaments.
Initially overpowered by Kvitova’s serve and forehand (as so many have been during Kvitova’s strong summer), Bartoli found her speed and aggression as the match wore on. In the third set, Bartoli took immediate control of nearly every point. Punishing nearly every Kvitova shot with a reply that landed on or near a line, she ran away with the final set by 25 points to 7, including 22 of the final 25 points.
“In that third set I felt so well,†Bartoli said. “I was almost flying on the court.â€
Though she did not actually take flight, Bartoli screamed and fist-pumped after nearly every point as the match reached its conclusion, primarily in the direction of her father, Walter, or the new French Fed Cup captain Amelie Mauresmo.
Bartoli’s enthusiasm during the match overflowed in such amounts that she had to share it with others. Not only did Bartoli fist-pump to herself, but she also repaid cheers in the stands with fist pumps in the direction of whomever had called out in support of her.
Judging by recent form, Kvitova came into the match as a heavy favorite. On the strength of titles in Montreal — which included a 6-1, 6-1 drubbing of Bartoli — and New Haven and a semifinal in suburban Cincinnati, Kvitova had claimed the U.S. Open Series title, which will add an extra $70,000 to the $120,000 she earned for reaching the fourth round. But Bartoli, who has struggled since becoming the player to end No. 1 Victoria Azarenka’s 26-match win streak in Miami in March, played nearly untouchable tennis.
“She looks like she sees only yellow ball and nothing else,†Kvitova said of Bartoli with a laugh. “She played so well.â€
Bartoli rejected, however, the notion that she might have been in the so-called “zone.â€
“I don’t really like this word, to be honest with you,†she said. “Because honestly it can happen only once every six months. I’m hoping to play like that the next match.â€
Bartoli’s next match, the quarterfinal, will be Tuesday against No. 3 Maria Sharapova.

That's the thing, it DOES only happen every six months with Cake. At least when it does happen it tends to be at a Slam against a top player. And it does look good.
