Donskoy is the big Russian hope.
Looking forward to Davydenko-Federer tomorrow. Wouldn't surprise me if Davy were to take at least a set off Fed.
Safe to say Bag's best tennis is behind him despite winning comfortably in 4 sets today.

Apparently Wendy Turnbull was the last woman to open her AO with two double bagels, and she promptly lost in R3. Go Venus, make history repeat.

Kolya is finished, I doubt he wins a set.
Meanwhile, I watched Madison Keys and she's easily the best USian hope. I'm surprised I haven't heard a thing about her. She's potential Slam-winning good.

If Davy didn't injure himself in that Qatar event, I'd say he could actually have been in good enough form to take TWO sets off Fed tomorrow.
Having said that, he'll probably lose in straights.

Meanwhile, I watched Madison Keys and she's easily the best USian hope. I'm surprised I haven't heard a thing about her. She's potential Slam-winning good. Yeah. I expected this to happen sooner - she spent 3/4 of last year losing 1Rs and 2Rs in ITFs to...Hardebeck, Larcher de Brito, Dushevina, Arn, Craybas, Rogers, Diatchenko, Doi, Glushko twice. Then after the USO something clicked and she's basically been playing at a top 50 level. I don't know how that can happen so suddenly. Anyway, she's here now, Kerber in the next round should be really interesting - Kerber's ability to defend, turn defence into attack and mental resilience all make her a nightmare match-up for Keys. She can retrieve Keys' big shots AND test her movement. We get Venus/Ma$ha in the next round too, as well as a Srbijan Sisters derby.

We also seem to have Savinykh vs. Flipkens for a place in the last 16. Hmm. Flipkens is probably bound for the top 30 soon, though. Weird career - hyped as a junior, couldn't break the top 60 in years and years but still hung around on tour, finally fell out because of injury and looked like she was done...then came roaring back and was ten times the player she'd ever been.

I use PlayOn to stream to my PS3. It's a lot easier if you have a 360, but I don't. It was also a giant pain to finally get it right. Ah, thank you. I don't have any of those game things. Will have to stick to that cable from laptop to tv for now, even though wires and cables are awkward and seem like something out of the 19th century. Where are the big AO surprises this morning? Nice effort, Doi.

Waking up into one of those moments of simuldrama is a shock to the system. I woke up about 20 minutes ago and I think set points or match points have been saved in about five separate SEWTA matches. First points I saw: Jankovic hitting BH DTLs with authority, just like in the old days. Was I still dreaming? No, she was still losing to a qualifier. Missed five SPs on Koehler's serve - three on basic-ass flop returns, one on a hilarious Koehler shot that was heading way out but clipped the net and fell in. JaJa still won the TB. Apparently Pervak choked 3 MPs against Watson. Latisha missed a SP against BAG Stosur! Served for the match twice and turned into Shanksur, lost five straight games from *5-2 up. LOVE Jie! She was dictating so well by the end. Inevitably the match ended on a DF on MP. Endless LOLs. The Baker injury, thankfully (well...not thankfully, but you know), is what Petko has, not the ACL. Those two should comfort each other. Thanks for the rundown! So many chokes. But what great news about Baker! Maybe he'll be back, then. Sounds like Jerzy really stepped up his game as that match progressed, though he was a maniac from the start of it.

Why is rusty Sharapova double-bagelling everyone?
Man, those Srbijan Sisters suck. I can't believe how close we were to a Chan vs Koehler showdown in R3 of a Slam.

Why is rusty Sharapova double-bagelling everyone? Because Ma$ha came into the AO "rusty" the way Kim used to come into Slams "grievously injured". Venus has no chance against rusty Maria.

I wish Maria-Venus happened later in the tournament so "rusty" Masha had more time to play herself into match-winning form. I've been a huge fan of Jerzy so good to see him get through! Also, LOL at Shankstur. Boring day, looks like I didn't miss anything.

Stosur's match was one for the annals ... Both times she served for it she led 30-15 and then ... horrible errors followed. In the 5-4 game, she started shanking forehands 20 feet out. That's when the writing was truly on the wall. If she can't play that shot ... what can she do?
Also, her topspin backhand is unbelievably bad for a top ten player.
Keys does seem really good. Gilbert has her beating Kerber. I don't think so, but wouldn't that be something? Madison has some truly big shots, though. She even has a great SERVE. Imagine that.
Li is the main beneficiary of Stosur losing. Now let's see if she freaks out with an open draw. If she is ever going deep in a Slam again this is probably the time.

Shanksur's epic shanked serve was unbelievable, even for her standards.
How sad for Baker.
