Almost an entire slate of interesting matches. By the way, when did Return of the Mak get to #19?
Jerzy-Almagro is tough to call ... I think Almagro wins though.
How many combined errors between Venus and Bot? I say 73.

Yesss, all works out nicely for me. Will definitely not fall asleep at 10pm like I did last night, will watch Kerber/Keys and then wake up for Vee/Ma$habot. Hopefully no getting sucked into the Srbijan Sisters' Hot Mess.

Almost an entire slate of interesting matches. By the way, when did Return of the Mak get to #19? Same time as Lepchenko (who is now up to EIGHTEEN in safe points, btw). She'll be out of the top 20 after the AO unless she repeats her QF run though. Any thoughts on Kerber/Keys, incidentally?

I wonder if Jerzy will be less insane on a Hawkeye court? At least I think that court has it.
Goooo OLD VENUS! LEE!NA! Baghboy! Melzzzzzzer! JJ & JZ. Nishikori. Almagro.

These matches do look fun. And the team I just got added to pled out, so I have almost literally nothing to do, so, hell, I'm just gonna stay up late tonight.

Any thoughts on Kerber/Keys, incidentally? I dunno...isn't supreme defending going to be the worst match-up for Keys? I think something like 6-3 7-6 to Carebear.

Post by Lady on Jan 17, 2013 13:39:57 GMT -5
The one I'm kinda interested in the Keys/Kerber, but I don't think I'll stay up til 2am to watch it. Since I do need to go to work in the morning now that my vacation was cancelled.
I'm also interested in Serbian clash since it should be awesome in its suckiness. Potential for a classic SEWTA match. But due to the schedule I'll sleep through that one as well.
Don't care for Masha/Villiams, it's gonna be a blowout.

Poor Lady. I saw your issue in the other thread and haven't responded yet because it's too sad. I am totally going to watch Serbian Sisters! I actually kinda got yelled at by my 'boss' today (which is normal, that's how she communicates, so I didn't even take offense or anything), and she was "Why everyone so slow today?" or something, I was this close to replying "I guess I'm still on my vacation mentally", but moment was lost and I think she kinda realized her own behavior.

6 French men are into the third round. That's twice as many as the next closest nation (Spain). For the women, naturally Russia leads with 6, but USA is close behind with 5.

I posted about it a few days ago. Brad Gilbert is calling the upset, you may have heard. But others point out what Hurley said - Kerber is a tough proposition for any young basher. Madison said in her post-match interview that sometimes she can "kinda lose" her serve. I suspect that must be true given her ... interesting losses last year. So she has a really huge game but it remains to be seen whether she can bring it to the court every day. Personally, I can't wait. I hope she comes out firing and accurate. She has some serious heat on her forehand too. She made Paszek look puny and overwhelmed. But there is much we don't know. She might get tight if it's close. She might lose ala Clijsters-Serena 1999. I ... am always uncomfortable picking someone of her age to beat someone in the top ten in a Grand Slam. It is very high stakes.

I don't have to get up early tomorrow so I'll try to catch some of the Srbijan Sisters encounter. Although, I'm afraid it won't be as dramatic/craptastic as everyone expects it to be.

It is going to be more craptastic than we can even conceive, I think. I believe it will set new heights.
I want Ana to win, but not before blowing a 5-0 lead in the third.

Post by lexpretend on Jan 17, 2013 17:23:14 GMT -5
I tend to agree with Hurley and Grar on Kerber being a bad match-up. She can redirect pace so well, too, and expose Keys' poor movement. But then you look at her results this year...lost a set to Tatishvili, Puig nearly beat her, Cibulkova did beat her...Kerber can be vulnerable. That said, it's when she goes MP down that she's dangerous. It'll be funny if Keys does end up making a huge run this year, considering she started it with a loss to Kumkhum I obviously want JaJa to win the Srbijan Sisters match, she obviously won't.

Day 5.
Jan 17, 2013 17:59:34 GMT -5
Post by Grarliner on Jan 17, 2013 17:59:34 GMT -5
You still like Jelena? Her game sucks so much hard, erect cock at this point. So ... let's look into the future. Today is one of the rare occasions where I will be cheering for Venus. But I doubt she will win. I pick Maria in two fairly straightforward sets. Now ... the function of Kerber in that section is to oust Maria. I think she can. But if she loses to Keys she cannot do this deed. Other than her, I give Bartoli a very small chance of beating Maria and Makarova a 2% chance of getting to the semis. Meanwhile, does Watson have a chance against A-Rad? Is that crazy? I am looking at Li Na and Kerber as the best alternatives to seeing Radwanska meet Maria (and lose) in the semis. But they both ... might fuck this up. It's interesting that Leena completely snapped the other day with how bad women's tennis is. I think this draw is one of the more interesting in recent times.

Post by janie on Jan 17, 2013 18:08:14 GMT -5
For those of us who still like Jelena, it's not because of her game, it's because she's just different. I'll always like her, whatever her tennis. JaJa is special. I agree with everyone else that Venus-Mariabot is not going to be the tense drama the US Media wish for, but just another straightforward march (though not a double bagel!) to the 4th round for we all know who.

Post by Edna Krabappel on Jan 17, 2013 18:14:39 GMT -5
The worst case scenario for me would be Radwankster getting into trouble against Watson and the match dragging on so long that I don't get to watch the Serbian Sisters. This time I want an easy, straightforward victory for Aga.
I'm also interested in Kerber vs Keys.

You still like Jelena? Her game sucks so much hard, erect cock at this point. Poetry. I actually think Ana will be a straightforward winner in the SS match. The only time JJ was ever a threat to her was when she didn't completely suck. The shitfest of the round will come from the "epic" Masha vs. Venus match, I reckon. Zheng's "serve" is utter garbage. Anderson v Verdasco could be fun.

Yeah, that's probably true about Ana. I don't dislike her, but would way rather see a JJ revival.
I haven't been moved to tune in to any match yet. Am astounded that Kimiko's out there playing doubles; is she insane?
It's funny how we all seem to have lost interest in Cake simultaneously.
