Another strong hold for Stan. I'm sorry he's serving 2nd in this set, though.
Now, at 6-all, they've re-set the challenges as if for a new set, so both guys have 3 again. Don't hesitate to challenge next time, Stan!

Aaaw, so sorry for Stan! 12-10 in the 5th. I'll be forever bitter about that call on break point. Stan would have won that point and that game.
Why does Novak needs to go and ruin it all by ripping his shirt and screaming his head off?

Especially considering how Stan was fighting cramps for most of it. I wouldn't even call it a brainfarting. I mean Stan was going for it all match, and he was tired so some of the shots won't come out right.

No one should blame Molina for that call, players shouldn't ask umpires for advice. The umpire is gonna back up the original call because otherwise they would/should overrule.

I blame the line judge. ;D Cause even if Stan challenged, the point would have to be replayed and Novak would find the way to win it. Now had line judge kept his mouth shut, Stan had an easy putaway.

Maria's dropped 5 games en route to the QF. I think this comes back to bite her in the ass. Okay, The Cat. Haha. You think she stands a chance against Serena just because she's dishing out bagels to the Dois and Flipkens' of SEWTA? I think even Aga/Li could give her a stern test in the SF. Ofcourse, Makarova stands no chance.

Day 7
Jan 20, 2013 11:52:47 GMT -5
Post by janie on Jan 20, 2013 11:52:47 GMT -5
No, it's just that I don't think the scores of early matches mean much one way OR the other about what will happen in the SFs/Final. Even the fact that the player who's scorching all opponents "saves energy" is pretty meaningless on the women's side with their 3-set matches, except maybe in those super-rare cases of 3-hour-plus matches. And even in those cases it doesn't mean much since they get a day off between matches to recover.
For the men with their 5-setters it's different. A match like the one Nole just played can take a big toll, as we've seen many times, so a player who rolls through early rounds does have an advantage later on against a guy who's been through that.

- Hobak WON THAT SET LOL
- Hobak could have won in four but lost a TB!
- And then the 12-10 final set
How did this happen.

Post by Traveling Man on Jan 20, 2013 12:16:16 GMT -5
Having a test in an early match is good to get "match tough" for the women's players - gives them a chance to play through the nerves, etc. Ofcourse it's irrelevant for current SEWTA because Serena's not going to lose.
