What, this win means she's back to no 1. ranking? Hard to argue she doesn't deserve it. Yep, she needed to reach SF, and then it doesn't matter what Maria/Azza do now. Obviously the only reason she showed up in Doha. Oh, Tati Golovin commenting on this.

I just spit out all my lunch.
Well. It would have been nice if she had won, but I will definitely take this (although I don't want to know if she choked).
And Serena at #1 feels so good. No, seriously. She earned it.

4-1 to 4-all, silly Kvitty. LOL. Of course.

No, seriously. She earned it. I mean some may claim Petra choked, she did play a bad game at 4-2, but it's Serena. She pressures you, and Petra's game comes and goes. I'd say Petra actually was playing smart in a lot of points, not going for the lines all the time. And coming back in many games after being down. Even in the last service game, at 0-40, Petra saved 1st 2 with great first serves, and only Serena's fantastic defense won her that last point. Serena hit like 13 aces as well

Ben Rothenberg @benrothenberg
Serena, now with tears of joy, says she's been through so much and thanks Jehovah. Clearly this achievement meant a ton to her. #wta
She plays Sharapova next.

Tears of joy, after claiming over and over again that the ranking means nothing to her. But, yeah, of course Serena should be #1. Just don't go and lose to Maria now, kid.

Making excuses for Woz' and her farther's behavior yesterday. I'm not here for that.

I'm at 2 minds here - I'm always rooting against Woz, but I actually would love to see Slam-champion-Azza vs Woz match, Vika has a terrible record vs her.
Ok, I remembered that I'll be attending the birthday celebration tomorrow, so I won't see it anyway... go Aga!
1-1 2 brakes of serve (9 minutes)

LOL, it's kinda funny how both players actually been to the net a few times already. Because the OTHER play forces them to, so they can pass each other. It's working.

Woz standing 1-2 meters inside the baseline and hitting a return winner. Off a forehand wing!

Yep, playing against Aga forces Woz to be more aggressive nowadays. It used to be the opposite, Aga had to attack. BTW, the one doing the attacking usually lost. We have break-fest in this 2nd set.

I kinda want Woz to win this one. She's the lesser of the 2 devils. Or at least her fans are.

I kinda want Woz to win this one. She's the lesser of the 2 devils. Or at least her fans are. It's the opposite for me. Woz is the epitome of St.Kim II. Even her bullshit behavior in yesterday's match was swept under the rug. Her Dad argued with umpire, from the stands, and it was rewarded. Is there anyone else on tour who would be allowed all that?

My stream died. It always happens when one is to serve out a set. Aga broke back after saving a set point. She'll be broken now herself while serving to stay in this set.

Oh, I didn't see that incident, but for the comedic values Piotr should never be banned from the WTA tournaments. That's about the only entertainment we get from the Woz matches.

I see your point, heh. I agree I'm not even annoyed at him, I'm annoyed at SEWTA allowing him to get away with it. Well Woz had 0-40 on Aga's serve in this game. I like this failing Woz. Aga 6-2 7-5

Woz played 3 great points to get that 0-40 game and then managed to waste them all. The match was quite nice to watch actually.

I prefer Woz to Haga so this result doesn't please me. But I enjoyed biathlon today so I won't complain.
Maybe Serena can retire now that she has reached her goal and became #1.

So Serena got her ranking back. Good.
10.5 years after her first reign.
I am convinced Serena waxes and wanes due to some physical process like sunspot cycles or something.

I missed the relay and must see the replay tomorrow. How did Italy win a medal with that team is beyond any explanation. And what a race that must have been judging by the scores!

It was pretty crazy. Italians basically all had the run of their lives, but were helped by inexplicable suckitude of Henkel in the end. The Germans were all tragic, actually, except for Dahlmeier (the best junior currently, as it turns out) who nearly won a medal for the team all by herself.
And it's almost ridiculous how Norway won after literally doing nothing in first two legs! But then Solemdal stepped it up big time and finally Berger just killed the entire field. I never thought they'd win the gold in women's relay.
