Petite Su Wei just loves food
IF there is anyone wondering which WTA player who knows how to enjoy herself, then it is has to be Taiwan’s world No. 25 Hsieh Su Wei.
The 27-year-old, who is in town this week to defend her BMW Malaysian Open title, revealed she is a food lover who enjoys trying new food.
And if you thinking she is on strict diet given her petite body figure, you are absolutely wrong!
“No, I have no problem with diet. I eat almost everything! Indian food, Malaysia’s bak kut teh, pasta and pizza … I quite enjoy each and every one of them,” said the excited Su Wei, who arrived in Kuala Lumpur on Friday night following a second round exit to Samantha Stosur at the Dubai Championships.
“I planned to bring Paul (her coach, Paul Mcnamee), who is visiting Malaysia for first time for bak kut teh tonight. Unfortunately I have to attend the Players’ Party.
“Perhaps tomorrow. I will also invite a few of my Japanese and Chinese friends (on tour) to join me. It is something not to be missed!”
The Kaoshiung-born lass also revealed she hardly hits the gym, which is something that one does not expect to hear from a top sportswoman.
Su Wei reckons her physical condition is good enough for her to challenge at the top level.
“I don’t really go to gym. I’m not interested to be a ‘King Kong Barbie’!
“I think I’m in good shape. I’m much bigger now compared to my time as a junior where I was skinnier,” said second seed, who will face Kurumi Nara of Japan in the first round.
“I can’t compare myself to Serena Williams. I don’t think I can ever reach her level, I’m Asian.
“As long I can still managed one or two wins, stay fit and be happy on court, I’m not going to change anything.
When asked about the jinx of the tournament, where neither top seed nor the champion successfully defending their title the following year, she said: “It’s hard to say really, there are many good players here even the first round match will be difficult, I will just have to be at my best, try my best.”
