(2)Vesna Dolonts (SRB) vs. Irina Falconi (USA) (wc)Elyzaveta Tymchenko (UKR) vs. (6)Maria Sanchez (USA)
(3)Jana Cepelova (SVK) vs. Michelle Larcher de Brito (POR) Sesil Karatantcheva (BUL) vs. (5)Mirjana Lucic-Baroni (CRO)
(4)Monica Puig (PUR) vs. Claire Feuerstein (FRA) (wc)Taylor Townsend (USA) vs. (7)Valeria Savinykh (RUS)

Sesil lost, so she'll have ample time to get here - whether she'll be able to transition from the slow COL clay to the ultra-fast Memphis courts is another matter. Keys/Burdette MD, complete with bizarre WCs (considering that Keys etc are stuck in qualies). Kirsten Flipkens [1] - Shahar Peer Lesia Tsurenko - Qualifier Ksenia Pervak - Lauren Davis Magdalena Rybarikova [7] - Stephanie Foretz Gacon Sabine Lisicki [3] - Qualifier Melinda Czink - Olga Puchkova Johanna Larsson - Victoria Duval [WC] Kristina Mladenovic [8] - Courtney Collins [WC] Lucie Hradecka [5] - Qualifier Stefanie Voegele - Silvia Soler-Espinosa Melanie Oudin - Andrea Hlavackova Heather Watson [4] - Galina Voskoboeva Chanelle Scheepers [6] - Coco Vandeweghe Jamie Hampton - Garbine Muguruza [WC] Marina Erakovic - Annika Beck Sofia Arvidsson [2] - Qualifier

What a brainless move from Sesil -- why not stay down there for Bogota? Here's what transpired: KEYS [USA] def. BURDETTE [USA] 63, 64 GLATCH [USA] def. MARINO [CAN] 63, 63 FALCONI [USA] def. DOLONC [SRB] 61, 30, ret. M. SANCHEZ [USA] def. E. TYMCHENKO 62, 61 T. TOWNSEND [USA] def. V. SAVINYKH [RUS] 62, 26, 61 J. CEPELOVA [SVK] def. M LARCHER DE BRITO [POR] 75, 75 C. FEUERSTEIN [FRA] def. First round already started and Hoho took out a seed, Jeepers Scheepers, 2 and 1 Qualifiers are Sanchez, Cepelova, Feuerstein, and Keys. Hope Madison does some damage, unless she plays people I like more.

Nice win for Hampton over the Big Mug, 63 63. Next up: Coco! Do your thing, Jamie!

Oh, she had better beat Hoho, especially after all that trash she used to talk about her on TF.

I refuse to even contemplate such a monumental injustice as Hampton losing her next match to that other player.

(WC) Duval d. Larsson 36 61 63 Although it is a fast indoor court...why did Larsson not opt for Bogota? Oh well, who cares, good for Vicky

Wow! Vicky steps up! I love it when a bumpkinette WC seizes the day.

Ha, I am watching the end of this Jamie - Coco match. Coco's antics are kind of entertaining, actually.

Jamie won 63 60. I only saw the last 2 games. Looks like if Coco doesn't win a point in the first 2 strikes of the ball, she will lose it. Both players attempted to serve & volley -- Coco tried it about 3 times in her lengthy serve game -- but neither one got a first serve in on those attempts, so I can't really comment on their skilz in this lost facet of the game.

Good housekeeping, Jamie! I watched a bit of it. Coco was constantly chucking her racquet around and moaning. Kept up a stream of "this is unbelievable, ludicrous, I don't believe it" for about an entire game after a call she disagreed with. Did she shake anyone's hand afterwards? Stream didn't give a great camera angle on it, but if she did both handshakes went VERY fast

Also, does anyone actually have a link to Jamie's comments on TF?
Oh yeah, Oudin and Davis lost too, to complete the trifecta of insufferable young USians.
Sadly Keys joins them - I thought she could beat Lisicki but apparently not.

Keys failed to serve out the first set. Things seem to have gone poorly from there.

Also, does anyone actually have a link to Jamie's comments on TF? She deleted them a long time ago. She didn't say much about Coco, only something like "I can't stand to be around her for more than 10 minutes", without explaining why. I also had my eyes peeled for handshakes! I think she did shake both hands, briefly, but I had such a fuzzy picture it was impossible to tell. Anyway I really enjoyed Jamie's game again and have to make more effort to watch her play. Because of her chronic back issues I'm not going to get my hopes up for her future but even if she can score a big win now and then, that would be more fun than SEWTA's given for some time.

Ah. Someone at TF dredged up an old thread where someone had copied Jamie's March 2008 post about the young US players. Here's the Coco bit: coco is the one that i don't know at all, due to the fact that i refuse to be around her for more than 5 minutes at a time as i can only take her in small doses. what i can say about coco is that she has the best athletic genes that i've seen, is probably one of the biggest 16 year olds that i've ever seen (without steroids), and definitely has the game to make it to the top (but you guys probably already knew that). huge forehand, good backhand, good volleys, good variety, and a great serve when it goes in. movement could be improved, and mentally she seems a little fragile. i did see her get defaulted in a doubles match ON match point for jumping on her racquet after losing a point(?). didn't quite see the entire thing. she seems to be working on that though. very athletic game, definitely one of the best of the young guns in my opinion.

Magda Rybarikova loses a 11-13 TB to Flipkens...then wins the next two sets 7-5 6-3. Another title run out of nowhere?

Well Erakovic was a finalist here last year and had no trouble with Hampton today, so she might be another candidate.

Voegele's coach called the umpire a fat bitch?
Hope Erakovic can stop Lisicki in the final.

Lisicki retires due to illness after losing the first set 6-1. Erakovic wins her first tour title - I still remember reading about her as a young player hitting with Monica in around 04-05.

Well, that ended with a thud. Awkward ending for the tournament, which is apparently not coming back. Wiped off the face of the world like the Philly tournament years ago.
