LMAOOOOOOOO Cohen has won a set off a former No 1 Ha! I knew this would happen as soon as I typed here that it WOULD NOT. You know this is the high point of Julia's life. Sure, she's picking the meat off a corpse, but it's a once-proud corpse, so she must be beside herself with joy. I know I would be, in her shoes.

And Teliana has advanced to the QFs.

Jankovic is suddenly having trouble closing it out from 4-0 up. She has already dropped one break and it's 4-2.

I remember when Julia Cohen was getting killed by any decent junior player outside of South America. Now she's taking set out of former #1. Who would have thought?

Fun from Bogota: JJ quote: "I've had a lot of ups and downs the last few years and some things haven't gone my way, but I'm really working hard and trying to play hard. I'm hoping everything improves from now on." .... fun stuff: Teliana Pereira battled for more than three hours to pick off the tournament's No.2 seed, Alizé Cornet, and become Brazil's first WTA quarterfinalist since this very tournament all the way back in 1999.
"Woohoo!" Pereira exclaimed upon being told the news - and among the crowd around her was former Top 30 player Alexandra Dulgheru, who said they should put a statue of Pereira up in her hometown.

I glanced at the scoreboard and LAV was 6-3, 3-0 up on Flav. Glanced again and that turned into 6-3, 4-6. Glanced again and it was 6-3, 4-6 6-0. XEWTA

Lara won that? Good! I actually watched a few points of that, just to get a glimpse at this Lara. She was playing smart clay court tennis at that moment, moving Flavia all around. Of course Flavs is rusty, and this is Bogota, so I'm not reading too much into this.

Oh how the mighty have fallen. However mighty Jankovic may have been.

Loses that dogfight in a third set TB.
Sad thing is, the most surprising thing is that it was so close.

I'm excited for Paulita, except word has it that she's a screamer. I think I'll have to never watch her so I can continue to root for her.

Bogota QFs: only one seed left, and five top 100 players. This is an improvement on this time last year, when there were zero seeds and zero top 100 players in the QFs.
(1) Jelena JANKOVIC (SRB) vs. Alexandra CADANTU (ROU) Karin KNAPP (ITA) vs. Lara ARRUABARRENA VECINO (ESP) Maria Teresa TORRO FLOR (ESP) vs. Paula ORMAECHEA (ARG) Mandy MINELLA (LUX) vs. (Q) Teliana PEREIRA (BRA)
First WTA QF for Pereira and MTTF. Jankovic might actually win at this rate.

MTTF should come through to the final, which means she'll flop tomorrow.

Ormaechea beat her last week, she's probably the favourite.
My general attitude is Anyone But Minella.

It's fun in a perverse way to root for Jankovic at this event because you honestly don't have a fucking clue how things will turn out!

Pereira crushed Minella 1 and 2. Watched a bit of the match and Minella, as in all other matches that I've seen her play, never looked like a player above the 25k level.

She isn't. I remember that fluke USO 3R where she got to play Venus on Ashe and I felt happy for her that such a journeywoman got her one moment in the sun. Not so happy now she's parlayed that into constantly hanging around the top 100 and accruing Pretty Girl Fans along the way.
Defending champion LAV fell to Knapp in the QF.

Aaaaah, Knapp was already angry at the start of the TB, and JaJa winning consecutive points with a net cord and a FH shank on the baseline hasn't helped.

All 7 points for JaJa in that TB were won through either angry Knapp errors or sheer dumb luck.
Ormaechea is so beating her tomorrow.
