Istomin def Isner 64 63. Fans of the bug serve must have been in heaven for this riveting match. Falla fell. Oh, and James Blake again declined to rest in peace, knocking out Mayer in 3 sets.

Isner is going to fall soon. He shouldn't get broken on this surface.
And this is the last year that Memphis is a 500. Replaced by Rio which at least get a couple top 10 Spaniards.

It's as if Roddick's retirement has killed off these events.
Isner has an IW F to defend imminently, right? *anticipates*

San Jose should have died a while ago. Nobody cares there. And Memphis should have lost 500 status 20 years ago.

I think San Jose is now officially dead. That was the last one.
I, too, was hoping for Isner's imminent plunge but ... he won't fall far enough even less the 600 IW points. If he wins a few rounds, maybe only a 5-10 spot drop.

Another bug server bites the dust in Memphis?! What's going on? Jack Sock knocked out Wownic! This tournament has taken a fun turn.

Raonic, ranked 14th, had been runner-up in Memphis the past two years.
“He was doing a few things well, he was hitting his forehand well, and I was giving away too many points,” he said. “It sort of added up. It’s unfortunate. I didn’t think this could have happened, but it did.” Raonic had not been broken in 77 indoor service games until he was broken in the opening set Wednesday.Tommy Haas won, too. www.commercialappeal.com/news/2013/feb/20/memphis-tennis-three-time-champ-tommy-haas-at/

San Jose is dead. Memphis takes its 250 spot. Rio takes the Memphis 500 spot. Rio will be played on clay, and Acapulco will be hardcourt next year the same week as Dubai which will cause even worse fields than Memphis. Got it?

Why would they do such stupid things?

Hewitt is getting mauled by Denis Istomin.
Obviously he got a lot of fake confidence from winning that Kooyoong exhibition at the start of the year, but except for winning an odd match against a SLOperstar he hasn't done anything worth of staying on the tour.

Ha! I love the idea of fake confidence. Is it pretending to be confident when you really aren't (eg. Sharapova getting ready to play Serena), or is it actually feeling confident when you have no real-life grounds for confidence?

It's like when you dominate your local clubs and think your serve will never be broken, then get destroyed by some Russian transplants. Not that I'd know such a feeling...

Ah, thanks. Closer to the 2nd option, then. They WOULD have to be Russians. Even at the club level!

F-Lo played some amazing shots in that last set. Istomin had his moments, too. Good match. Ludicrous ending when F-Lo thought he'd hit an ace on MP - they shook hands, turned and there was the umpire saying no, it was a let. And then F-Lo blew that MP and the next and nearly the game, but didn't.

Would have even been more hilarious if he had lost that game (he did go from 40-15, the problem point, to BP down). But he won

For the first time in his life F-Lo has an acceptable hairstyle. Sadly inexplicable facial hair ruins it anyway.
I just remembered how lucky he was not to go down a break immediately in the third - Istomin had 0-40 on his serve, hit a great dropshot and what looked like a perfect lob for the break. F-Lo challenged out of desperation and it was millimetres out.
