LOL @ TF fans proclaiming Pliskova wins are "good for the game" - the same people who hate on Niculescu.

Pliskova just turned her back on a BMS dropshot before it even went over the net BMS hustling away at everything, Pliskova smacking errors.

Is this where the wheels come off? (looking back at her first two finals losses to Paszek and Petrova, this does come off as a theme)

Ali called it In the second and third sets, Pliskova's serve was pretty impregnable. Beth was going for her shots and just wobbled a bit too much at the wrong times. A Pliskova title, gross. Karolina overtakes Kristyna and breaks the top 100 with this - the last few months, when Kristyna was ahead (mostly thanks to winning Slam matches) were the anomaly in their careers. Amusingly, Karolina winning the title means that Kristyna wins the KL Wooden Spoon.

LOL @ TF fans proclaiming Pliskova wins are "good for the game" - the same people who hate on Niculescu. Well, by that you mean Corswandt and Viktymise. That tells you everything you need to know about the Pliskovas' games.

Both extremes are annoying. Non-agile bashers and slice to deathers. You watch a match between 2 Pliskovas(which you can, ha) and two Niculescus and you'll want to scratch your eyes out.
If the tour was composed only of Erranis, Vincis, Kvitovas, Sanchezs and Radwanskas, then that would be perfect.

If you look at the three standout greats since Evert/Navratilova, all three (Graf, Seles, Silliams) were power baseliners. The Sabatinis, Sanchez-Vicarios, and Novotnas weren't nearly as successful, so it's hard to fault the dominant playing style being power baseline in today's game.

Barbies winning are good for the game, unfortunately.

It's not fair to lump these howitzers on rails with past greats though. Power baseliners in the past weren't slow and brainless. Monica knew all the ways to work a point and Steffi and Serena were fast as hell. That's not the same type of game. If anything I think this style of play has been shown to be unsustainable at the top. They inevitably have days when they get buried by their own errors. Apart from Kvit/Serverena/ARad, the top 10 seems to be about grinding, which is not so bad to watch.
