Stan is on fire. He trashes Muzza 6-1, 6-2. The scoreline is a bit stunning. Nole loses the opening set to Principality.

Stan, wow! Holy crap. It must be the coaching of Magnus Norman.

Monte Carlo bringing the drama, huh? I missed Gulbis's tantrum yesterday and both matches where Nole beat former top 10 players on one leg, but the end of the Delpo match...look, I really love Delpo, he's one of my favourites, but that was terrible behaviour in the TB! You can't just have a little sit down (call the trainer for mild cramp, decide you can play on after all when you're informed the trainer will be a while) mid-TB when you've just gone down 4-5. If that's in the rules, they need changing. So I was glad that Nieminen got the win, in the end.
Murray losing isn't that much of a surprise, he often struggles against Stan and has never beaten him on clay. I assume the scoreline is just a result of going into mopey mode.

Saw the final set with Nieminen-Del Porto. Pretty fun, lots of long rallies. That was weird with that little sit down, though. The female sounding umpire urged him to play again after the trainer would take a while. I don't think that was tactical, though... taking a break 4-5 in the TB when you're about to serve.

Yeah I definitely rubbed my eyes a bit when the camera actually showed the umpire and it wasn't a woman. Agree, I don't think Delpo was trying to cheat, it was just, like...that shouldn't have happened.
Nieminen's defence to break Pony at 4-5* was insane.

Grisha pushes a sub-par Rafa to 6-4 in the third. He was cramping at the end. His breakthrough is really coming in the form of a million baby steps, but he has GOT to at least improve his fitness.

Rafa was up 6-3, 5-1 before winning 6-3, 7-6. He's still winning but not as dominant as in earlier years, from what I recall. Nole wins 6-2, 6-1 as we'd expect.

I predicted some weeks ago that I think Novak looks good to win the French. This tournament is one step in that direction. We already knew that he could beat Rafa on clay, but last year he failed in three attempts. This match today seemed like 2011 Djokovic where there was a lot of distance between him and Rafa.
I also think that if Novak can't win in Paris this year, it'll continue to get harder as years roll on. Right now, he is clearly better more times than not against Murray, Fed and Rafa. This is his chance to complete the career Slam.

I think Novak will win it this year, but I also don't think it will get significantly harder, at least not for a while.
I also think he has a really solid shot to pull off the Grand Slam and it will be hilarious if he does when neither Rafa nor Roger ever could.

Novak won this tournament on one leg? SEATP.
I am surprised he beat Rafa, after Rafa turned the rivalry round again last year. I know most of your "NID" write-ins are due to anti-jinx favouritism, but I don't think this rivalry is at all predictable right now.

Yeah, I don't think calling the Grand Slam at this point makes sense. He couldn't do it in 2011 and his game has never reached that level since. With Rafa's poor play, '11 was his chance but he blew his SF against Olderer. Also he'll likely have to face MUZZA to win Wimbledon (I think he's going to be a real threat this year). After his final collapse last year, he won there at the Olympics and obz beat Novak on route AND in the Open final.
Rafa's comeback this is still quite spectacular ignoring his first event, and his performance in this tournament (and any tournament ever, probably) will never be matched again in our time. EIGHT YEARS IN A ROW. Crazy. If he loses again to Novak before the French.. that won't be good. But, yeah, 2011.

Damn. I forgot this was happening and didn't watch. I'll watch Rome and the other one. When are they? Too bad there aren't any websites that could answer that question for me.
