Is Vandeweghe a little mentally slow? “It’s been a tough year for me. I’ve been struggling with results on the court, even though I felt as if I was doing everything I could,” Vandeweghe said. “So I’ve sought out opinions and help from those that I trust who have pointed out my fitness and physical shape as a possible reason. I decided to rededicate myself to that aspect of my game. It has taken a precedence.” It took SEVEN YEARS for someone to point this out?

Winning 120 points for beating Niculescu and Kiick helps. But how many years has Vandeweghe magically been able to win matches in SoCal and nothing anywhere else now, she was able to do that when she was unfit as well. Gross, but at least she's well out of the top 150. More importantly, THUNDER is gaining points before her stint in Bulgarian Big Brother. At the expense of Gorgeous as well Tamira got double bagelled by Hantuchova. Who does that. When does she stop being able to get into these tournaments.

I don't know. I'm always surprised to see Paszek in a main draw. But let's jump right to the most important match of the tournament! IN WTA RETURN, HINGIS ACES 1ST DOUBLES TESTBy Don Norcross Aug. 1, 2013 CARLSBAD — Doubles is normally reserved for tennis’ hinterlands, the outside courts, where only die-hard volley and lob fans venture. Wednesday night at the La Costa Resort and Spa, doubles demanded the stadium court and a prime-time 7 p.m. audience for one reason. Martina Hingis. Playing her first Women’s Tennis Association tournament since 2007, Hingis teamed with Slovakia’s Daniela Hantuchova to defeat Julia Goerges and Darija Jurak 6-1, 6-1 in the Southern California Open. Of her comeback, Hingis, 32, said “It was awesome to play with Daniela. It had to take a lot of courage and inspiration for her to take me out of the grave.” Having won five Grand Slam singles titles, played at Roland Garros, Wimbledon and every big tennis stage, Hingis admitted she was nervous. “Very much,” she said. “I am only human.” If so, she hid the nerves well. Hingis’ résumé includes nine Grand Slam doubles titles and she showcased her doubles skills with deft volleys, sharp cross-court angles and passing shots. The match’s final point: a backhand lob that Goerges and Jurak, glued to the net, didn’t bother trying to run down. “I’ve been saying this for quite some time,” said Hantuchova, 30. “The last few years tennis (has been) missing Martina big time. I think you saw it tonight. She inspired my tennis career. The fact we’re sitting here together feels very good.” Hingis and Hantuchova are signed up to play three summer hard-court tournaments, plus the U.S. Open., which begins Aug. 26. For those dreaming about Hingis stepping on the court solo and playing singles, she insists it’s not happening. “Singles? No, that’s a different world,” she said. “Playing (singles) tournaments, that the easy part. “It’s all the grind behind the scenes people don’t see. The six to eight hours training. The older you get, the more you rehab. At 17, everything’s easy. Now I’m almost twice (that) age.” At a noon press conference seven hours before she took the court, Hingis volleyed with the press as well as she does opponents. Insisting her competitive spirit won’t allow her to play singles, Hingis said “I wouldn’t want to win one or two matches, then lose in the third round. That’s not my type of personality.” “But you wouldn’t rule it out completely?” a journalist asked. Tilting her head back and laughing, Hingis said, “Come on, leave me alone.” ... www.utsandiego.com/news/2013/aug/01/tp-in-wta-return-hingis-aces-1st-doubles-test/

She's already been shading every active doubles specialist by talking about how much weaker it is now Never been so happy to wake up to a BAG win as today. Hopefully now the SoCal swing is over, so is Coco's career. And now BAG's done her duty she can get double bagelled by Roby again. LOL @ JaJa, losing to U-Rad. A-Rad vs Stosur is an interesting match-up. They've only played three times but not since 2011, Stosur leads the H2H 2-1. QFs: (1) Victoria AZARENKA (BLR) vs. Urszula RADWANSKA (POL) (4) Roberta VINCI (ITA) vs. (7) Ana IVANOVIC (SRB) (WC) Virginie RAZZANO (FRA) vs. (3) Petra KVITOVA (CZE) (5) Samantha STOSUR (AUS) vs. (2) Agnieszka RADWANSKA (POL)

That didn't last long - Hingis/Hantuchova lost to Kops Jones/Spears 4-6, 7-5, 10-3. Apparently they were up 3-0 & 4-2 in the second.
So thrilled to see Radwanska lost to Stosur. And WTF Shitra losing in 3.5 hours to Razzano? Azza can the title blindfolded at this point.

Stosur in the final is a big surprise. This has been an awful year for her. She is #26 or so coming into this week in the Race.
I actually wonder how much of Sam being terrible had to do with that hideous loss to Zheng in Australia. That was a real confidence-killer.

She's still terrible, judging by this final. Yes, the one she's leading 6-2. I've been watching five minutes and have seen about five hilarious shanks already. That DF.

A huge shock, given everything, but it had zero to do with her. Azza couldn't keep the ball in court. Nine games in, they'd hit 22 UEs each.
Stosur's shanks are just disgusting really, it's a disgrace that she's near the top of the game. She can't hit the damn ball.

Still, she overturned a 0-8 h2h. Not bad.
This is Stosur's first title since the US Open in 2011. It is also only her fourth title EVER.

It feels like a very pure form of sports hate, I don't hate her personality (she seems nice enough) or her hype (NOC about her). Just her game. It's GROSS.
