By Nicholas J. Walz Wednesday, August 14, 2013 The 2010 US Open and Wimbledon doubles champion Vania King, two-time NCAA singles champion Nicole Gibbs, rising young Americans Shelby Rogers, Alison Riske and Maria Sanchez, and USTA Girls’ 18s National Champion Sachia Vickery headline the list of those receiving wild card entries into the women’s main draw at the 2013 US Open. Australia’s Ashleigh Barty and France’s Pauline Parmentier also will receive main draw wild cards through reciprocal agreements between the USTA and Tennis Australia and the French Tennis Federation respectively. ... In addition to the eight US Open women’s singles main draw wild cards, the USTA also announced eight women who have been awarded wild card entries into the US Open Qualifying Tournament, which will be held August 20-23 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. One additional US Open qualifying wild card will be awarded to the winner of the 2013 US Open National Playoffs – Women’s Championship, taking place August 16-19 in New Haven, Conn. Players receiving 2013 US Open qualifying wild cards are: Jan Abaza, age 18, who has won two pro doubles titles in 2013; Brooke Austin, age 17, a USTA Girls’ 18s National Championships semifinalist; Louisa Chirico, age 17, who reached the girls’ singles semifinals at both the French Open and Wimbledon this year; Victoria Duval, age 18, the 2012 USTA Girls’ 18s National Champion; Alexandra Kiick, age 18, this year’s USTA Girls’ 18s National Championships singles runner-up and doubles champion each of the last two years; Jamie Loeb, age 18, a 2013 Wimbledon junior singles quarterfinalist; Brianna Morgan, age 19, an incoming freshman at the University of Florida who won her first pro singles title in June; and Taylor Townsend, age 17, who made history in 2012 as the first American girl in 30 years to hold the year-end No. 1 world junior ranking in addition to being a one-time US Open girls’ doubles champion.

Would love to see exactly how much money Barty has "earned" through her wild card entries only.

Six Slam WCs for Barty already, this latest on the back of zero warm-up matches played (apparently she took the time off to follow her favourite football team ). Nearing the Rogowska record already. "There aren't any better AUS players" is true but it's not an excuse, it's a REASON TO SCRAP THIS FARCE ALREADY. Parmentier is just a bizarre choice. Her W/L record for 2013 is 4-15 (1-10 in WTA MDs). I can only imagine La Razz turned it down. Beneath her, FRA is almost as bad as AUS for lack of deserving players but even Lim would have been a better choice. Pleasantly surprised to see King rewarded over the likes of Oudin and Vandeweghe! If Riske makes direct entry (she's only four out, I think), I wonder who her WC will get passed to...

I know, I was happy about King, too. I bet she was surprised.

Ram got direct entry since Troicki is on drugs, so his WC goes to Alex's favorite, Smyczek.

I have no opinion on Smyczek!

I just remember one time you were like "WHAT IS A SMYCZEK" and it was funny.

Parmentier turned down her WC and gave it to La Razz Good on her!

Potentially some last-minute twists... As far as I can tell, Riske is now 3rd ALT (with Bartoli out). Oudin is the official ALT WC if she gets in ( but whatever, less of a chance for her to win points). King is the 5th ALT and Sanchez the 6th ALT and still several days to go before the MD is made. I'm not sure what happens if they get in before qualies start...do their WCs get reallocated? Also, the top ALT is now Pereira - one more withdrawal and we have another debutante to go with WCs Sanchez and Vickery.

Parmentier turned down her WC and gave it to La Razz Good on her! Oh! I didn't hear this, and just saw she won her Q1 match today and thought, Huh? I hadn't even noticed her name in the Q draw. Thanks for explaining what she's doing there. Suddenly I'm rooting for PP.
