Last night someone told me about this new hot tennis player named Duval and he barely follows the sport. She's hit the big time. Yes, I read that she had appeared on one of those morning shows. It's too bad she's getting so famous thanks largely to Sam's pathetic performance. I just hope she won't Oudin out on us. Sam sucking helped, but it's also because she has a "story" and is sort of adorable in a small child kind of way (she speaks a bit like she just huffed helium). Without the other two things, she probably doesn't get on a morning show.

I'm going to go swimming in 30 minutes, because that is how long it's going to take me to get off my ass and change into suitable swim wear. Add another ten minutes to get off my ass again and apply sunscreen. Doing stuff is so hard after 30.

Tomljanovic can't be too promising if Cornet of all players is demolishing her.

The tennis at the end of Svitolina/McHale was so nervy. McHale got through in the end, her trajectory is such an object lesson in how illness/injury at the wrong time can send your career down a completely different path though, she's nowhere near her level when she was top 30. I remain seriously unimpressed by Svitolina's game, no real power or smarts or...anything. Sweta barely squeaked by a visibly distressed and injured Peng. Poor Shuai Not entirely surprised by Sarita's loss, Flavia's USO record is strong and seniority despite form often takes precedence when countrywomen play each other...and in any case, Sarita did her job already. Thrilled that Kurumi Nara beat Cirstea! Finally breaks the top 100 three years after peaking at her CH of 101 then DYING. God, it's ludicrous that Duval is being hyped this much...I like the girl and she's had a very nice run but it's like the US media has no idea that "talented top 50 player" is a category in between "tour nobody" and "Slam champion".

Tomljanovic can't be too promising if Cornet of all players is demolishing her. I watched a bit of this. Tomljanovic has good strokes but Cornet completely outsmarted her. Already seen three dropshot/lob to the BH side/run to put away volley combos from her in the second set alone. I don't think Cornet is as woeful as she's often made out to be, she's not powerful but she is resourceful and I guess she's cut out the histrionics at last.

Oh my God, there are people here! I wonder if Chloe made it out to the pool. But I think I'd better start watching a match again, since there may be somebody to talk about it with! You guys are right about the Duval hype. So ridiculous after just one match. Let's see her back it up the way Robson has done, then we'll talk. But even so, I'm thrilled for her 4 wins here so far, if only for the $$ for her family.

Bautista takes the set! Massively choked a 3rd SP in the TB but took the 4th on an incredible volley

One commentator is saying "Tomitch" and the other says "Tomik". We need some Balkan input here to know which is correct!
Anyway, nice SEWTAesque choke from Evans just now. Winning a set seems to have frightened him. Come on, Danny, it's just Bernie over there!

Isn't her dad now some loaded doctor type that flies around North America saving lies? I might have misunderstood part of that story. Anyway, no pool, but I did make it out to the lake for a quick swim. It was good!

Evans was accused of sexual assault a few years ago, I cannot cheer for him until I know how that was resolved.

Oh, good! A lake is better than a pool.
No, Duval's dad is disabled after that incident being buried alive in that earthquake, so he's unable to practice as a doctor any more. Not sure what her mom's doing, but she was/is also a physician. Duval herself mentioned that the financial situation hasn't been easy, but they've had help so it's not like they're on food stamps or anything.
Bernie Tomic's FH is so odd! Fun kid to watch.

As for the assault thing, I guess for now I'll root against both guys.

There is an actual registered sex offender with his exact name who lives in Florida, I learned when I went to Google to find out more about this. Anyway, it seems he went out of his way to cooperate with the investigation, and nothing came of it, so I guess he gets the benefit of the doubt. Besides, even without this he sounds like a complete tool.

Yeah, I know he's no Wally Cleaver. Wasn't he accused of lack of effort in Davis Cup or something? It's a dope vs. dope match, but I'm enjoying it.

I've never thought of Cornet as resourceful, but I guess there must be a reason why she's ranked so highly. Is Evans any good now? I saw him play Davis Cup a few years ago and his S/V game was really ineffective.

TBH, when I watch a men's tennis match after watching some women's ones, the men ALL look like very good players. But I don't think Evans' game is anything so special.

Evans definitely isn't a s/v now. He didn't look awful when I was watching that but Tomic's game can make his opponents seem better than they are. Watching Jack Sock hilariously struggle against Maximo Gonzalez now. Does Sock actually have a BH at all?

Evans is ahead in the tb, still plenty of time to choke, though ... yeah, not much s/v happening here

Hey, maybe Riske is the new Kerber; having no trouble with useless seed Mona. Why isn't the US hype on Riske? It will be soon, at this rate.

Lucky Jack. This DE-BT match is a good one, and a fun one to watch. I have to say that neither guy is acting up at all, no matter what they might be like off court.
