Dechy just beat Kuz; might not be as gentle a way to come back as people had supposed! I just hope this recovery sticks.

I so hope Russia loses somehow. Fed Cup is so pointless this year.

It is pretty darned pointless ever year. But:

It's more pointless when Austria makes the SF with nobody in the Top 100. And nobody in the Top 20 playing all year, except for Russia.

Well with those details added, "pointless" is too charitable a word for it. I'd say Fed Cup has degenerated to being ridiculous, farcical and pathetic. BJK's pet project should just be allowed to die :shoot:, and everyone but BJK knows it, but they are afraid to tell her. :red:

The training goes well...in the Spanish rain.
06/12/2004:
Justine is already staying a few days in the trainingscamp of Juan Carlos Ferrero in Spain before starting her season of 2005. The news is positive, Justine is feeling good!
By travelling to Alicante, Justine was hoping that she could enjoy a better climate than in Belgium. A climate that would allow her to train outdoors, but unfortunately, she has to train indoors for the moment, because southern Spain is struck by heavy downpoor.
"We have no luck because it rains all the time and Justine was only able to train outdoors for one day. We spent the rest of the time indoors. But from Monday on, it should get better”, Carlos Rodriguez explained. “The trainings go well, Justine makes good progress, she’s tired because it’s tough, but it’s more like a healthy tiredness”, he specifies.
Justine will be back in Belgium on the court in less than two weeks! She will again have a taste of the competion on the Women Tennis Trophy (BE). This is a tournament that will take place on December 18th and 19th in the Spiroudôme of Charleroi (BE).
After this first come-back, Justine will train another three weeks in Tampa, Florida. This should allow her to prepare properly for the tournament of Sydney and Melbourne. Back on track, on her way to new victories…

What's up with everyone training in Spain? Henin, Bovina, Kuznetsova... THEY MUST BE GETTING NADAL'S ROIDS!

I don't know, Leena! I'm surprised Justine's not in Florida, as usual in the winter. Maybe they wanted to cut out one of the transatlantic trips.

sorry, it's not out in English yet! Get out votre dictionnaires!

I don't know, Leena! I'm surprised Justine's not in Florida, as usual in the winter. Maybe they wanted to cut out one of the transatlantic trips. Probably because Florida would make her sick again. It freaked me out listening to Justine go on about how she has to be in certain conditions for so long, or she'll get sick again. I'm serious saying this... I don't want her to play again, because I'm terrified that she's going to die on court. And, of course, Willies fans would all think that she's faking death.

And, of course, Willies fans would all think that she's faking death. Look, Justine will be fine. She's in good care at camp JCF. All they have to worry about there is chicken pox and gimpishness.

I hope so...
She's said she'll only play 10-12 tournaments a year now... which is disturbing to me also. That's almost a sign of her giving up.

I think it's just a sign of her being really careful and taking care of her body. I'd rather see her play 12 events than see her overplay/overtrain and play 8 I didn't know you liked Justine

She's said she'll only play 10-12 tournaments a year now... which is disturbing to me also. That's almost a sign of her giving up. Carlos has been saying that Justine has to make adjustments like this in order to hang in there with the far larger, stronger players. Due to her size, he says, she has to put in a lot more off-court work than the big babes do, just to be able to compete. Working so hard, she wears out. And they want to prolong her career. But 10-12 tournaments, now she is getting down to Venus and Serena's preferred schedule. I'd rather see her play about 15, if she can. Anyway, it sure sounds like the WTA is going to be having that problem again of top players hardly ever competing against each other -- even if/when every last one of them gets back from injuries. I bet they're camped out on Hingis' door, begging!

Janie-Is the 10-12 with or without the Majors? I think she should do whatever feels like it will work for her.

It appears that JHH will spend just a week in Alicante -- she has that exhibition on the 18th & 19th and then will go to Florida to get roids from Etcheberry.

roids should be legalized, or so Joan Ryan, an intrepid columnist is SF has proposed. And she isn't kidding. She has medical back-up that there is no proof of connection between roid use and health problems, more evidence of problems from over the counter pain killers and coritsone shots, not to mention playing the game(s)!!!

Janie-Is the 10-12 with or without the Majors? I would assume it's with the majors, but I don't know anything about the 10-12 thing; was just responding to a previous post, I think it was Leena who gave us that sad info. Joan Ryan sounds like someone who just enjoys being controversial. Funny how her medical backup is at odds with gobs of evidence to the contrary!

I don't know if it's 10-12, not including the slams. If it is with the slams, then that's cool. I'm just worried about Justine. The tour badly, BADLY needs her back. Her style of play is sorely missed in the top of the game.

Former No. 1 Justine Henin-Hardenne lost a second straight exhibition match in her comeback, falling 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 to Elena Dementieva on Sunday.
Henin-Hardenne lost 6-2, 7-5 to Nathalie Dechy on Saturday at the Women's Tennis Trophy tournament in the southern city of Charleroi.
"I have to be positive, I still have a few weeks," said Henin-Hardenne, who hadn't played a match since September because of weakness from a viral illness that affected her the second half of the season.
She's hoping to tune up in time to defend her title at the Australian Open.
"My body has to get accustomed again to the stress, the rhythm," she told RTBF network. "This is a new start. I have to recover my touch."

These exhibition losses worry me.
I think Justine went into these with full effort.
But, if she withdraws from Melbourne... better chance Bovina gets a Top 12 seed, and a likely GS QF ensues.

"Sunday was better. She came back strong in the second set, and she stayed out there for over two hours. She had heavy legs, sore thighs and a bit of back pain at the end, but she wasn't exhausted. That's rather encouraging. Ind technically we saw some good things, notably her desire to go forward."
